Yeah I've got this bizarre feeling that YKD is gonna get dropped as well....

Could be something to do with King Kev's quote this morning that he'll be quite happy to tell the players he's leaving behind cos he knows they'll be in the squad in the future.......kinda suggests youngsters are gonna get dropped....Barry and Dyer?

Barmby's dad lives about 1/2 a mile from me. Should I pop round and beat him up, if Barmby gets picked over Dyer??

I know it would add interest to the Tournament if Dyer was picked to stay, but if he's let go, it's probably the best outcome for Newcastle. Less chance of injuries, time to rest which for someone of Dyer's age and build is important, and the incentive to still show Keegan what he's capable of next season, after having had the carrot dangled before him. And let's face it, he has still got a lot to prove, however promising his start has been.

Windy,

Agree totally.....wouldn't really mind in the slightest if he didn't get picked although I do think that he could really be one of those players to make the tournament his.....

Possibly, Gav, quite possibly. He's the sort of bubbly, enthusiastic player that should excel in a tournament setting (unlike Barmby who's a miserable git and a bit of a homeboy). I think Keegan's got a very soft spot for a man called Gerrard though, instead.

I'm in several minds about this. Firstly, his general crapness towards the end of last season suggests that he needs bringing back down to earth and being dropped from England might do just that. There's also the worry that he might end up at right back which he just isn't and never will be - that would do his confidence and credibility no good. For us, he has been best as a supersub, buzzing around when the opposition are knackered and whether that's a luxury King Kev can afford is another matter. He's also great in the hole (according to the Daily Star, boom boom), which is a bit of a Scholes spot. All this suggests that his England time isn't nigh. However, he does have that capacity to change a game and the gambler in Kev could go for that.

Considering the England team lacks creativity and cutting edge more than anything, I reckon he should definetly be involved. Throwing on Dyer for the last 30 mins to work alongside Mcmanaman+Owen would surely be the trump card to turning a tight match.

In saying that Dyers confidence especially internationally isnt in as good shape as it could be at the minute and he would benefit from a good rest.

Would be great to see him in the squad though ;-)

DOugal why do you(+others) say he needs brought back down to earth??? Havent quite seen him as the cocky sort in the slightest...maybe i missed something?

He said he was knackered towards the end of the season and admitted he had been crap since the FA cup semis- he also said he wouldnt be surprised if he didnt make the squad. I think his tiredness+lack of confidence due to one on one goal scoring probs were his probs, not 'arrogance'. Did i miss something?? ;o)

one on one? I haven't seen a better one on one since he lobbed Gerrard at Everton.

I wasn't saying he was cocky or arrogant. I said he needed bringing back down to earth and by that I mean, learning his trade, learning to walk before he can run, learning when to pass and when to play the ball, take some shooting practice. He isn't the finished article by any stretch. His poor form goes back longer than the Cup Semi, IMHO. I mean, his memorable moments since Christmas have been the Everton goal and a few games where he'd disposess the other side, run past about 6 defenders, ignore the forwards and completely miss the goal. Bobby says he's told him he has to work on certain things, including shooting, and by Kieron's admission, keeps banning him from drinking and doing what young lads with money do - large it. He's a great, great prospect and will be a brilliant Toon player, possibly as important as Pedro. And we got him for buttons, too. As for his being arrogant, I've only heard the same apocryphal stories as anyone else - I don't think they are true.

Not speaking for Dougal, but Dyer got involved in quite a few arguments with Barton and Lee on the pitch, and since neither of them have ever exactly behaved like prima-donnas, one can only surmise that LKD has quite a high opinion of himself, which he only delivered on in patches over the season. When he was good he was very very good, but when he was bad he was horrid.

I don't understand how one minute Dyer is a genius and then he doesn't even make the squad. Ok so he had a poor game against Belgium, but one game, and it was only his second. Barmby is shite, so is Barry. Dyer has to play for England. I think it may be a case of keegan not picking him cause bobby said he should. Tit for tat kinda thing. Owen in living on that goal against the argies, robbie fowler (although excellent is nowhere near match fitness) what gives?

Disagree re Barry - he's gonna be a great player and he's much younger than YKD.
