Nicola got out of hospital this morning, so I can't see me getting my pass stamped to go out and watch the match tonight. Have to wait until the Finals start. Sorry!

Good News though Soft! Isn't it? Hope everything goes well from here on in.

Yes Softie....does this mean we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief?

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

Really glad to hear Nic is OK. Tell her to take it easy and relax for the next couple of months 'cos she won't get a chance once little Bobby arrives!

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

Thanks for the concern, but yes, sighs of relief all round. She's much better now. It was a 'hind water leak' or some such thing - at least it had a name, which is usually a good thing. They were all going on about 'persistent pyrexia' however, which sounded pretty dodgy until the medical dictionary informed me that that just means 'running a temperature', but obviously that doesn't sound serious enough so we call it a different name to worry ignorant husbands :-)

The other big bonus is that we're getting another load of scans until Bobby is born just to be sure. Nicola is now horrified to find that he is a large baby with great long legs weighing in at 1.3kg (I think) already. If you've met Nicola you will know that when she draws herself up to her full height she can still be mistaken for somebody sitting down, so she is now dreading the birth with a passion.

I'm naturally just going through the Spike (or was it Butch?) routine from Tom and Jerry: "That's ma boy!" and dreaming of him leaping like a salmon at the far post in the Leazes end to head past the flailing hands of the hapless P Schmeichel Jnr as we win the league for the 20th year in succession.

Good...I'm glad to hear that things are better mate....

I'd give her a damn good slap for worrying you though!! bloody women eh.....anything for some attention!!!

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

Here the deal then, let the men have the kids and see how much attention they want. I can see the population falling rapidly !! ;o)

Great new Softie, shame about the footie though !! :o)

Not to worry Jay, I can settle back on the sofa with a beer (Duff) and listen to it on the radio, only lifting my head to bellow at the little woman for making so much noise washing up all the pots and pans I've left her before she makes a start on the washing and ironing ;-)

Nice one Softie....I think that's 2-1 to us isn't it? ;))

So glad to hear all is well....lots of love to all three W's. Nowt else for it, I'll have to be sending ye olde positive vibrations from the Far East all the way through to August. , Ying Tong Tiddle Ay Po :-))

I'm with Val on this. Missed this crisis, Softie. I'm glad that everything seems to have sorted itself out.

Softie,
When's the next load of coals due? Nicola might appreciate a lighter shovel. Maternity stays might help as well. -)

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

Well Bill, now she's going to have to give up work I've told her we can't afford to heat the house when I'm not there, so she's got a lot less coal to shovel. I've also pawned the hoover and given her a dustpan and brush. This ought to keep her warm and she won't need the lights on to see what she's doing. Nothing's too good for my lass so I'm still letting her cook me dinners even though she'll probably be breathing jerms over it. I'm a 90's man me...the 1890's :-)

persistent pyrexia
Don't know if you have Pyrex glassware in the UK, but reading that had me immediately thinking she'd developed an unnatural attachment to glass bowls! And if you're house isn't spic and span when she got home she'd have been heaving them at you. ;-))

Hello,

Pleased to hear the news; hope you both find time to relax a little before the birth - you probably won't get much r&r afterwards.

I'll have to change my venue for the football now - just hope 'you know who' isn't working this night!

How did a thread entitled 'Gibbo' attract so many postings btw?

Good grief - this generation is supposed to have moved on in the equality stakes. Obviously no new men on this BBS. You remind me of my husband who for our first wedding anniversary bought me a ladies spade! Nothing`s changed since! (:o)

Good news, glad to hear it Softie.

I see you're getting the hang of medical jargon - put a perfectly simple term into Latin so the punters won't understand, and the whole deal seems much more impresssive. Don't worry, all professions do it! There's a story about a famous barrister last century representing some Irish tenant farmers in an action against an absentee landlord. The judge, getting tetchy, intervenes: "come come now, surely your clients must have heard of the doctrine of 'res ipsa loquitur?'". "My lord" he says, "when the sun goes down in Kerry and they gather round to converse in the firelight, they speak of little else".
