Real Audio entries

greenspun.com : LUSENET : digital ink : One Thread

Two ideas just for the hell of it:

1. Having the readers vote for the top 10 or however many entries. That way when new people come here, they can read those first, instead of being introduced to digital ink by whatever crappyass entry happens to be up that particular day.

2. Letting people pick out maybe an entry from each month for me to record in RealAudio, should I ever get RealProducer working again. Or, just recording the Top 10 or However Many Entries in RealAudio. Or maybe both.

Good idea? Dumb? Let me know.

Hmm...they're both good ideas.

Do you think it would be effective to 're-read' an entry you wrote however many days, months, or years ago? Do you think it might lose something in the translation? Some of the emotion that went behind the actual entry? I love your real audio entries, but somehow that idea doesn't stick right with me.

I do like the idea of having a 'Best of Digital Ink', though. Very much so. Or maybe also include a list of entries that explain a few things, (i.e. 'Where I work' leading to an entry about your experiences at K-Mart, or something.)

I like #2 a lot. I'd liked the first idea except that I wouldn't have time to reread all yr entries to pick the best ones..

I like the idea of having a Top 10, or something. It would definitely be nice for a new reader, as well as some of your older ones. But I'm not much into the whole real audio entries. *shrug*

I have to agree that if you re-read your entries, some of your feelings that you felt when you originally wrote the entry would be lost. But I think the idea of doing a "top 10" would be good. I mean, it'd take quite a while to read what happened within the couple of years that you've had the site, which I'm trying to do right now:)

I agree too. I prefer having the Top 10 sounds like a great idea. And instead of having all the Top 10 being recorded, record the best one of the Top 10, or something like that. Either how, it's a great idea.

I like idea #1 a lot. I don't think anyone could easily read through 500+ entries in a sitting (or several), never try and determine the best ten entries, but perhaps if readers notice an entry that they particularly liked, they could mention it?

I don't much care for realaudio entries. They're a novelty for a while, and sometimes effective (to use a word banned under pain of death by English teachers everywhere), but apart from the fact it takes forever to a while listen to them (27 minutes for Laurie's yesterday, costing me #0.50 although it was a worthwhile experience), if they're written down already, there doesn't seem much point.

I don't particularely like Real Audio entrys because I dislike Real Audio. I don't have the program to hear them. I don't want to get the program to hear them. So, I'd rather read your journal than (not) hear it.

I think the idea of having a top ten is a worth while idea. It can give ppl a bit more basis of opinion apart from just reading your biography. I don't however like realaudio. I don't quite trust it after all that stuff with them secretly making a list of your mp3 files and emailing it to their headquarters. They save they've taken it out, but maybe they've just hidden it deeper?
