Don't tell him Dougal, it's Ken trying to be subtle and find out your new address ;))

I don't know her old address...........let alone find out a new one.

aslo Gav, as you well know.....subtlety is not my strong point.

Nice area - within walking distance of the Town Centre (shopping), The Ouseburn (Pubs), and Cradlewell (Pubs/Restaurants).

But ITK is right - try to keep away from the Shieldfield end - it is a bit rough. The nearer you can get to Jesmond Dene the better, and the nearer to Cradlewell/Jesmond Dene even better (i.e. away from the Heaton 'Studenty' end of the Dene).

The area also has a reputation for break-ins - but I knew someone who lived there and never had any bother.

In any case, no matter what the area - if you are looking at a 'Tyneside flat', always go for the upper one - less prone to noise and easier to sell.

My parents met in the Cradlewell pub for what its worth. He was with some mates and saw this 'beautiful woman' walk in and said - he was pissed - thats 'the woman I am going to marry'. He watched her all evening and when she got up to leave he followed her out and asked her for her telephone number. She gave it to him, but when he got home and rang it, he discovered it was for Tynemouth Lighthouse (she must have been asked out a lot to know that off-pat). Anyway he said he 'never stopped thinking about her' and a few months later saw her again at a party in Gosforth and went up to her and one thing led to another etc etc. She had no recollection of the Cradlewell incident.

Lovely tale, Beardo. My folks met in a Jazz Club (Nice!) which was reputed for being full of weirdos and had each gone to marvel at the freaks. My Dad walked her home and they've spent every night together since. Bloody weirdos :-)

A jazz club would have been too cool for my Dad. He never owned or wore a pair of jeans all his life which must be some sort of bizarre record.

Liked the Cradlewell story - nothing to do with Sandyford, but my folks met 45 years ago in the Rex Hotel Ballroom - my mum asked my dad what end of the bath he sat in .....

Dougal, Sandyford is an improving area - some good pubs, nice eating places and city centre within walking distance. Agree with Chevy - upstairs Tyneside flats a better buy than downstairs ones. Lived in a downstairs flat in Heaton until we recently moved south - a four year old monster child lived in the upstairs flat, which had wooden floors. Not nice to wake up to at 7.30 on Saturday and Sunday mornings!

'Which end of the bath do you sit in?'

Ha ha ha! Priceless! Thank you Whitley Lass.

It could be worse, Beardo, my Dad never wore or owned a pair of jeans either...until a year ago. I'm now beginning to suspect he's a denim fetishist. Enormous, shapeless things with elastic waists and 4 inch turnups. They seem to terminate somewhere under his armpits and he doesn't wear a belt, "Why should I, they hold themselves up?"

Dads! Who'd be one? Oh sh*t! That's gonna be me in 20 years :-)

4-inch turn-ups? Jazz Bar? Its all fitting together nicely. Jeans worn by 'Mothers' are the worst. Elasticated waists and no back pockets. Yuk. Time to call the fashion police.

I heard that Beardo! But I do actually agree - when I finally could no longer get into my size 10 and 12 jeans without assistance, I stopped wearing them. I was beginning to wonder what damage I might be doing to my displaced internal organs! Pride wouldn`t let me buy the next size up, so I steered away from demim! I`ve still got the jeans though - I live in hope that one day I will be a perfect size ten again. I have a sneaking suspicion that might round about three weeks after I have gone into the great unknown! Hope there`s not a dress code! (:o)

Talking about Heaton, The Corner Hoose, Sandyford, and man meets girl stories, reminds that I met wor lass at the the Youth Club Valentine's Dance at the big Church at the the Sandyford end of Benton Bank.
As usual, me and me mates got tanked up at The Corner House and then marched over to the Youth Club, which offered a fair selection of Jesmond tottie - much prized in those days, at least for Heaton lads.
Well without being too soppy, we saw each other and the rest, as they say, is history.
She'd had a couple of dates with a lad, Ted Towers, who like me went to Manor Park GS, and was reputed to be the hardest blerk in the area - I once actually saw him hit a bloke over the head with a bar stool in the Corner House! Well, my mates were forecasting a fate far worse than death for me "if Ted ever found out".
I'm not exactly Braveheart, so for me risk life and limb in the course of finding true love, it was obviously something very special. Happy days indeed!
