Should I buy an AC adaptor for Nikon CP 950 for 28 dollars?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I just bought a CP950 and don't even have it yet! I'm very excited and this is my first digicam. I have heard several times that they suck the life out of batteries. I bought some NiMH batteries and a charger (only 4 batteries). However, I found an AC adaptor for only 27.95 on the net. How do these work? What could I do and what couldn't I do with it? Thanks SO much for ANY help. Everything is Greatfully appreciated! ~Stacey~

Obviously an AC adaptor is good only when you are near a wall plug. So it is good for going over reviewing your pictures at the dinner table, or uploading pictures to your PC. For taking pictures, it is useful only under limited situations.

Stacey,

I purchased a Nikon AC adapter when I got my Coolpix 950 last August. I never use it. I find that having two sets of NIMH batteries more than cover the waterfront. But if you want to get an AC adapter I would urge you to get one from Nikon. Nikon uses a rather strange input voltage (6.5 volts) and is very sensitive to differences and regulation. To bet the warranty and you multi hundred dollar camera on a savings of $20 is not, in my opinion, a very good idea.

I just bought a cp950,too. I also bought a digital camera extended powerpack made by Digipower Solutions (DPS8000). It claims to deliver more shooting power and last longer than standard rechargeables. Manufacturer is Mizco International. Product available at Ritz Camera Centers on East Coast.

AC Adapter may be good if you are downloading pixs from camera (serially). Transfers are hard on batteries!

Enjoy!

nah spend the money on an extra set of NiMH batteries instead.

Most everyone I keep in contact with puts their money into rechargable batteries. However only you would know if you are going to be by a wall socket that often. Try the rechagables you will not be sorry and if you find that you still need the electric cord you can always get one later. Good Luck, Allen
