2000 Daewoo Nubira CDX that I bought here in California four weeks ago via carsdirect.com. Tricia (up above, there) has even been for a (short) ride in it. I left my 1987 Honda Accord LXi back in NC when I moved away from there last April 1st, and it's still for sale, folks! Step right up....

The Nubira's pretty good so far. It is an economy car, no question, though the CDX does have some pleasant amenities in its "luxury package," even though I have yet to play a cd in it. I do have a total of three things about it that bother me: 1) a loose wire to all the dash lights occasionally blacks them out at night; 2) the headlights ought to be better aligned for a straight-from-the-factory car; 3) it could use a light on the ignition keyhole for nighttime starts. Oh, plus, the speakers aren't all that robust, but that's probably something I can change if I'm so determined.

Oh, and I forgot about the color; the Nubira's not available in the same colors as Daewoo's other two models, colors I would've prefered to the "Brighton Gold" I settled for.

Okay, 5 complaints, but who's counting?

I drive an 1989 Chevrolet Corisica, with almost 120,000 miles on it. It is a comfortable, fast, strong and stealthy highgway cruiser ( it is battleship grey, no one notices it bombing along ) . It is now equipped with a CD player, the air still works, and no major breakdowns, yet. Good for years yet.

Right now I have a 1989 Ford Taurus. Very dependable, but no personality. In July I'm driving out to San Francisco to pick up a 1959 Morris Minor woodie wagon. More maintenance will be needed, but it has a soul. That Taurus will be for sale real soon.

I drive a 1998 Hyundai Accent. It's purple. It's not very 'manly.' A friend of mine was in a financial pinch and needed to get rid of the car quickly. I happened to be at my friend's bank at the same time. On a whim I bought the car. Went in to deposit a check and walked out owning a car. Took my old Ford Escort to the junk yard the next day.

My car is ok. The gas mileage is great. The only real problem is the color. It's purple. Purple as a color isn't so bad, but everyone here in the People's Republic Minnesota assumes I am a Vikings Fan because of the color. I hate the Vikings. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. No way in hell am I ever going to cheer for the Vikings. I'd go to a Cowboy's game before I go to a Viking game.

Maybe I could paint my car Yellow and Green. Maybe I should just get a bumper sticker that says, "Viking's Suck."

The only other complaint for my car is that it has no A/C. I wish it had A/C. When people ask me why my car doesn't have A/C, instead of explaining how I didn't buy this car brand new or how my friend, the origianl owner, didn't want A/C because of the cost, I just tell people that it's better for the environment.

Anyway, I'm not a car nut. It gets me places. Boats are much cooler than boats anyway.

I proudly drive a 1985 Toyota Van.

I tend to carry lots of props and boxes when I am performing. I also like the fact I can carry over 100 folding chairs and barricades, but not in the same load...

It's gutless, but it carries as much stuff as an SUV, but is fuel efficent, carries more passengers and is far less to insure and maintain. In other words, I really love it.

I bought it because it did the same functionality as a 1996 Volkswagen Eurovan for $12,000.00 less. I still plan on getting something like the Eurovan for extended road trips, but for now the Toyota is everything I need.

Besides, I am going to paint it with glitter for the fun of it! I'd never do that with an SUV because of the cost. It might seriously dent the resale value. With a lower priced car I don't feel as bad turning it into something fun.

I have a 1977 Oldsmobile 442. I love my car! It seems it must have been about the last muscle car made until the much newer camaro and firebird. I love it when these little jap cars try to mess with me on the highway... I hit second gear, punch it, and don't even shift into 3rd until 95 mph. It's a rush! When I'm not blowing somebody's doors off, I'm jamming with 1100 watts of stereo and a 10 disc changer in the trunk.

I drive a 1987 Volvo Model 740 Turbo. It is a gray box with black rubber disks that hold you tight to the road. It has a stick shift in it that has never failed and is still tight in all the gears. I bought the Volvo new and it was so expensive, I almost barfed signing the promisary note. It took ten years to pay off the loan and now it's like getting free free transportation, almost.

My Volvo 740 has had a coat of fresh metallic paint. It's had a new headliner installed and the dashboard has some kind of custom-molded rigid slipcover that hides the sun splits that cross-crossed the original black like a spiderweb. And to me, it's just as good as the day I bought it. There have been 158,000 miles of fun driving and understated "muscle" no one but me knows about.

The Volvo 740 turbo is a great way to get across country leaving a contrail without collecting literature from local law enforcement precincts. I mean, "who'd a thunk". So you can whush by troopers and they don't even look up from their steaming paper cup and donut.

But the neatest thing is that every time you put the key in the ignition, like magic, something happens. The engine turns over and catches. The soft vibration begins and you can hear the motor humm. It's a reasuring experience that reminds you this was money well invested.

So today, my Volvo and I will drive from Knoxville, Tennessee, through the lush Cumberland Mountains across the Bluegrass of Kentucky, past the big ham on the side of the Fisher's Meat building in Louisville, through the corn fields of Indiana and into the smog of Chicago. And there will be times when I will listen to the deep buzz of the exhaust and feel the sensation of flying in a well-tuned prop plane. (If you close your eyes... not smart while driving... you can almost feel all the parts working in harmony pressing against the road... faster faster.)

And it will be a good trip. It always is.

Well, we're up to almost 3 now (there's a Dodge van my father-in-law says he's giving us...)

My favorite is a 1990 Honda CRX HF (high efficiency, not sport) red, looks sporty and kicks ass (up to about 80) it's got 270,000 miles on it and still kicking. A/C is dead though, seems to be a thing with Honda (at least 80's-early 90's) that the compressor dies.

My second Honda, and I like them. People think it is comical when I get out of it though - the roof is at my waist. Gets 35-40 mpg & runs me all over the midwest for work. Not a family car though....

Number 2 is a 1991 Ford Aerostar (minivan)

I don't particularly like it, though my wife and daughter (who use it) don't want to part with it. The anti-lock brake light is on permanently as is the door ajar light, and the side door is fucked at the moment. Not too bad as minivans go though.

Don't want no car, want a spacecraft. Get me off this planet before it's too late!

I have a 1977 442 which I recenty had repainted engine & tranny redone .I like the way it drives & handles it rides just as good as a Caddy.
