NUFC fans are "stupid and attention-seeking"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I'm normally a great fan of 4-4-2 as it's well-written and has some blinding features. In fact, this very month, there's a great piece on Big and Saint Michael of Owen as well as a great interview with YBR about being a manager. However, they have a page on football myths and say that the biggest football myth is that we are loyal. They quote that Oxford game (obviously) and say our average attendance was 24000 in the 80's. Further, the fact that we are all shirted shows that we are stupid and attention-seeking. Now, the writer of this atricle is obviously a Manc as he talks about the Cole missed chances myth as well as bollox about Dennis La". What he doesn't do is mention the fact that we'd had 40 years of shit mangement in the board and the pitch before Keegan, that we still had one of the better attendances for the 80s (when no one was going for fear of hoolie), that no one had jobs and that we've stuck with them despite woeful post-Keegan experiences. Yet another mag to be boycotted.

I think you should write to them and tell them Dougal. They are usually quite good at publishing letters slagging off their articles. I've had the same discussion with fans on anotehr board and it's amazing how many people forget that the likes of man Ure had a much lower attendance than they do now. obiously not a case of glory supporting bandwagon jupers there then. Cue LR

Well, Man United used to give their official attendances as includibng season tickets sold so it wasn't that uncommon for the official attendance to be twice as high as the actual attendance.

DO NOT BUY THAT MAGAZINE AGAIN _ EVER! I hate that! As you pointed out, the fact that everyone got lower attendances in the 80s never enters their tiny Newton Heath obsessed minds!

Absolute garbage!!! Douggie...just WHAT is this complete and utter wank about United's attendance and our season ticket holders? You suggest that "our" figures are..or were double what they should be? Tosh. We don't incude our ST attendees in our match-day figure. It's turnstyle "clicks" or "voucher" counting where the figure comes from. So the author is ManUtd then is he?/why??just because he prints what EVERYONE in football already knows doesn't make him a United fan.

Your crowds were cak...u only strted getting good crowds when it looked like you may be in a position to win things...if that's not GLORY HUNTING what is?

Ok, football in the 70's and 80's was dogged by violence and most attendance figures were poor, but even during that period ours was by far the best, with Liverpool running second.

At certain times during those "violent" years we had crowds BIGGER than we had last season (when our capacity was 58,000) and honest...we were shite then.

Naa...the piece is correct.....your mythical support and AC's mythical misses have been well and truely exposed....for those that didn't already know.

ERROR..I meant to say we ONLY iclude ST attendees in our match day figure...not all who own them.

LR, it was a more regular match going Manc than you who told me the season ticket story. Besides which, our attendances were better than average for a side that was mostly in the second division - even Alex Ferguson has said that he can't believe that we had a crowd at all after 40 years of the management we'd had. So, bugger off and remember why you have a season ticket to OT next season. A TOON FAN.

Toon fans - glory hunters?

Shome mishtake surely? (-;

Or maybe the shine on that 1969 Fairs Cup win hasn't worn off yet?

Now then, Jonno, hinny, be fair: it's that Mercantile Credit Cup or the Anglo-Italian that's dazzling us.

This may be an old one and it may have already done the rounds, but when did I ever let that stop me before and it made me giggle......so here goes.......

How many Manure fans does it take to change a light bulb........

Two.......one to change the bulb and one to drive the car back to Surrey!
