Problem Recording pictures on to VHS tape !!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi all, I have Olympus 2500 and I love it, yesterday I was trying to record pictures from CD-R to the VHS tape, and for some reason the tape reveled that everything was very jumpy to the point that you can see the picture but very poorly. What I did was, I connect my lap top to my receiver video in, and on TV I can see very nice slide show of all my pictures from CD, but when I try to play back recorded slide show I seen a lot of jumpy lines and looked to me like lock of trucking, all the adjustments didn't do any different, I also try to record to different VCR but with the same results. Is there any one that try to do this and was successful, or some one know what am I doing wrong, I think VHS tape with slide show and nice background music would be a good way to show some of the pictures.

Thank you, John

John:
What video output are you using on your laptop? Most laptops don't have an NTSC or PAL compatible output - which is what you will need to record onto a VHS tape. (NTSC for North America & Japan, PAL for Europe).
You will need a scan convertor to record on VHS. These little devices are relatively cheap - ranging from US$ 99 to 250. The scan convertor will need to put out a stable signal - it's possible a really cheap one doesn't have a stable enough Time Base - even for VHS - but I've used a little Averkey unit before (99 bucks) and it works very well.
