Which VCD websites can I trust ... HELP!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello people.

I haven't bought any VCDs but I found some websites that took my attention:

www.videocds.com/

www.video-cds.com/ [a.k.a Eureka Movies or something !]

www.absmusic.com/

www.coolvcds.com/

www.vcdgallery.com/

www.videogallery.com/

www.discgallery.com/

www.getvcds.com/

www.movieparlour.com/

http://www7.ewebcity.com/vcdcafe/

www.dracotec.com/dvdmart/

www.hkmusic.com

www.archivalmovie.com

www.thainetcity.com

www.asiacd.com

http://www.vcdshopper.com/

www.moviescd.com/

www.realvcd.com/

www.vcd.co.nz/

What I want to know: 1. Are all their stock ORIGINAL? I notice that Getvcds sell some music VCDs that are not sold by the other websites !!!! 2. If anyone bought Star Wars Ep1 from any of these sellers, did you get the long box packaging with the VCDs? 3. Has any one had any problems with any of the websites, particularly problems of buying their items in large "bulk purchases", long deliveries and non-delivery of orders?

I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST ANY OF THE SELLERS FROM THE WEBSITES ABOVE- I JUST WANT TO KNOW THE EXPERIENCE OF BUYING VCDs ONLINE FORM OTHER PEOPLE.

P.S. CAN ANYBODY TELL IF THERE ARE OTHER GOOD WEBSITES THAT SELLS ORIGINAL VCDs ???

I can't speak for all of them but I have ordered from both absmusic.com and discgallery.com. Both were great experiences, the discs were originals, and I received them within the specified time period. I got Star Wars Episode 1 from absmusic.com and it came in the long box packaging.

I order 12 VCDs from http://www.coolvcd.com including Star Wars: Episode 1. All were original and they came within 4 business days via FedEx. I haven't had time to watch all of them, but the ones I have watched work fine.

I didn't actually do a "bulk order" though, just purchased a lot at once.

With the Episode 1, I did receive the long box packaging.

I have used www.videocds.com

I took them up on the special offer of ordering Satr Wars-Phantom Menace plus one other title to upgrade my order to courier as opposed to air mail.(Uk orders usually take 3 discs to qualify for courier)

I was quickly given confirmation of my order details/credit card clearance then followed. Shortly afterwards, I was told my goods were on their way and I was given a Fed Ex shipment number and a web page to track the order!.

The whole process took less than a week, not bad for items coming directly from Malaysia, they seem to have their act together as far as I'm concerned, prices are ok too!.Everything came intact, well packed and play fine, they are proper "official" releases, not copies.

I ordered some discs from videocds.com. The CDs are shipped directly from Malaysia. One ("Three Kings") would not play; the vendor haggled for a bit about returning it and eventually offered me credit, since I would have to return it to Malaysia and pay shipping. He does not have a US presence so if you have any customer service difficulties it's really not feasible to return items. Also most of his movies are in PAL format, and this may not be stated on the web site. They play OK, but with some "stretching" in the vertical.

Granted I have an old Magnavox CDi player and it was a crapshoot as to whether the newer "White Book" disks would play at all, so on the whole I am not negative about my customer experience. I would just advise anyone to make sure your vendor has a presence on your home country in case you have problems.

Well.....I never tried any one of the above, but my first online VCD vendor was http://www.videocds2000.com I bought from them, and my order reached me within 3 days, via FedEx. The shipping rate is lower, compares to other sites. It does sell other stuffs as well, besides VCD (e.g. CD, Playstation Games, etc.)

check it out, it's a great site.

asiacd.com (now called yesasia.com) specializes mainly in the Hong Kong versions of Hollywood films. That said, you'll notice Chinese sub-titles. I once bought the licensed ERA release of The Replacement Killers but the sound was too low even though I cranked the volume to the max. That shows that nothing beats the highest quality, American-made DVD.

I have purchased from www.getvcds.com twice. Both times my orders were promptly recieved (shipped out the next day, only 2 days shipping). I recieved original vcds in jewel cases (with exception of some box set vcds which were in plastic sleeves). However in all cases the jewel cases were opened and the cd liners taken out a sticker saying "Special Price VCD @ getvcds.com" was slapped on the case liners before being reinserted. I found that a bit annoying. I don't know if that is standard practice or not, but my theory is that this might be to cover up the warnings you sometimes see saying "This VCD is not to be distributed outside of Asia. . . blah blah". However despite being opened, the cds are in mint condition (no scratches) so they seem to be new. The Shipping Cost was 8 bucks flat, no matter how many you order. I also recieved a free vcd for buying 3 others. Overall, the prices were low, the shipping cost was low, the cds were originals, the sticker is annoying, but I'm satisfied.

This is the permenant answer to your problem. Cut and paste this link into your browser :-

http://www.d8a.co.uk/video-cds-vcd-shop-uk.htm

It reviews rates and mystery shops all of the VCD vendors and ranks them accordingly the rankings are continually amended upon user feedback - book mark it now - it could save loads of hassle when a vcd store becomes too busy or lax to maintain their customer service. If you buy from the top 3 you will never be dissapointed. User feed back is highly regarded and encouraged.

Does the free vcd getvcds gave you original

-- Kenny.K (zeldalink62@hotmail.com), January 28, 2001.

Personally,I like vcds because they're cheaper than vhs and dvd in the U.S. Though they may not have the same quality as dvd,it's just as good as vhs and will last much longer. The best site that I have dealt with is getvcds.com.They're quick with the shipment and courteous with my questions. They'll pretty much work with you on any problems you may have. The best time to order from them is to put your order through on monday and you'll probably recieve it no later than friday. They always send it by fed ex,8.99 shipping flat rate, and yes the free movie is original!!.Another thing I like is they give you a tracking # so you can see the status of your package.Last but not least,if you don't want the getvcd stickers on your movie cases, request for them not to put them on on the ordering section where it has the comment part and you won't get them......

I would personally recommend a relatively new company called newvcds. They sell unreleased VCD and DVD movies. I ordered a couple of videos from them and was very happy with the result. their email address is sales@newvcds.com

Actually, the last guest was slightly mistaken on the address, but i agree that they are a good company to purchase from. Their real website is: sales@newvcds.hypermart.net

Anyone know of a dvd player that will convert PAL input fromm a vcd and give a NTSC output so that I can play it on a NTSC tv?

-- Baqur Hossain (baqur_hossain@ey.bm), May 10, 2001.

I order hapes of dvds and vcds from getvcds.com. They have the newest stuff in the net, but if you order a dvd for 12.99/13.99 then you will see where they come from. They are mostly just press-material and definitly not for sale. The quality then is very low. The rest for 15.99 is without booklet and sometimes without the expected sound. So if you just want a movie without specialeffects, the side is good, but otherwise go somewhere else to order (maybe dvdboxoffice)!
