Playing CD-R with DVD Content

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have burned SVCD and DVD contents on CD-R and successfully playback on computer with a Chinese built SVHS Media Player. Playing these CD-R in the Pioneer DV-525, the one with SVCD format runs honestly with beautiful picture, and the DVD one can also playback on two third of the monitor, with a black strip on the lower part of the mon. I think that's because DVD has a resolution 720X576 (PAL)and Pioneer DV-525 play it back with the SVCD spec i.e. 480X576 (PAL). Anyway, compared with the orginal one in mini DV, the picture quality is awesome.

Can CD-R with DVD content be playback flawlessly on DVD standalone player?

Someone told me that some DVD player made in China with Hitachi double optical head assemble can playback DVD CD-R . I think this is quite an interesting thing to prove it.

I want to point out that I have played some factory made SVCD disc in Pioneer DV-525 without sound. Those are the SVCD disc with two channels of stereo sound. I think this may the reason be still a hidden supporting SVCD playback with this kind of machines.

When will the XVCD (DVD on CD-R) be an international standard?

I would be interested in how you burntt the DVD on the CDR. Although there has been people who made the mini-dvds, no one as far as I know has actually had a standalone DVD play even recognize the disk since the speed of the CDR is different than the DVD. Please give us details how you authored these discs and how you made the mpeg 2 files. I would be interested in trying to get my sony to play this but I doubt it. Thank you.

I use a Futuretel's NS-351 encoder to have the Mpeg 2 files, either in SVCD or DVD profiles. With EnReach's I-Author I can author them in SVCD format (The tutorial of the authoring process can be found around). The final output disc image in CIF format can be burned to a CD-R with Adaptec's Easy Creator.

I playback those SVCD or DVD disc with the Herosoft's SVCD player ver.5.5. I haven't tried any other player, such as WinDVD. I think those player supporting SVCD playback can play it as well. I have also tried to play them in a PIII system with built in Sigma Design's Netstream 2 decoder card, the output of DVD on CD-R can only be seen on the external video monitor and the image quality is so stunning that I was shocked.

Choppy action sometimes occured when play the DVD on CD-R in the CD- ROM of a PIII 450 PC, but still with a full and beautiful image in a D1 playback window.

Many DVD standalone player cannot playback CD-R, even the CD-R only contain VCD material. May be it is due to one laser optical head. Nnowadays those DVD player supporting CD-R playback can be found in the market. But a DVD player which can playback DVDon CD-R is still a new search for all those video fans.
