Sony D770 Mystery

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have a recently acquired dsc d770. It works fine feels right at home in the hand.

Strangely, it makes a rather unpleasant noise. Like a motorized adjustment system inside is acting up. This correlates to aperture changes [zoom is manual]. But only when it has a Memory Stick and adapter loaded. Put a straight ATA Type II card inside and it is very quiet. Note that I am not taking a picture and I am not touching the release button. Just panning and watching the aperture/shutter speed indicator in the viewfinder change with light. Either the correlation to the card is coincidence [possible] or this is weird. Any insights? Does the camera adjust actually, physically adjust to the light prior to the depression of the release? I thought not, but then what is the noise? Thanks

Vince
