+++5-a-side / Stag...update+++

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

'Cos this wonderful BBS has just one failing, in that the threads keep on going down the list and disappear into the oblivion known as "Uncategorised", I thought I'd resurrect this topic again with an update

++++++++ ok, so far we have: Me, ITK, Scratchy, Bill, Jonno, Screacher, Sting, Gav, Grc, Geordie, True, Susie B. Any more?

I've mailed Min who is injured in sympathy with Andrew Cole but has volunteered to ref the game!

Looking at dates, I suggest 1st or 2nd July. That way if anyone crocks me knees I'll have 5 weeks to recover :-) Any difficulties with that weekend?

Just venue t.b.c. Min suggested Regents Park, True offers a proper pitch (albeit plastic) at Brunel, Uxbridge. More?

Ummm.. maybe.. I'm doing the 3 Peaks Challenge on 29th/30th June (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pik, Snowdon.... target 20 hrs) so I'll be well and truly knackered. Don't get home 'till mid-day 1st July.... but heh.... sounds a good w/end !!

I may have to go in goal if my legs hae packed in :)

Just to confirm I have put that w/e in my diary. No calling off now, eh?

Now Bobby, I'm sure you have plenty of time between now and the first weekend in July, and even a bit of time after that before the new season starts. But at your age, do you think getting married in the close season is a good idea (actually I thought you were married before you left Ipswich - is this just re-affirming your vows?). You know, you're not getting any younger, and we need you to stay at Newcastle for a couple of more seasons to continue the excellent re-building job you started when TDM left.

If you are still short of a few players for this game in July, might I suggest you ask some of the promising youngsters you saw in T&T (you're still there aren't you?) to come over. It would be a good opportunity to see them in a relaxed atmosphere and a tremendous way to get new potential Toon talent to meet with the fans.

I really think this is a masterstroke from an Old Master, Bobby. How many other EPL managers would take the time to organise a kick-about with the fans? Marvellous. On behalf of all on this BBS, thank you very, very much Bobby. In return, I'll make sure that the PR work is done (after all NUFC still need improved PR) and ensure that a report and pictures of the weekend are published in The Scum.

Screacher,

Well, young lad, with the limited budget I have to work with I'm on the lookout for talent wherever I (or Mick Wadsworth) may find it.

A good philosophy Mr Robson!!

I myself have long been an advocate of picking up talent on the cheap ;)

Bobby, perhaps Parliament Hill Fields - there used to be some piches there when I starred for Camden Libraries.(Royal Free just round the corner - heart attacks a speciality.)Brunel is soulless - not a good idea. Apart from that Regents Park seems OK.

I am not playing on astroturf. Grass there's no substitute :-)

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

Have to agree to prefering grass - astroturf simply doesn't burn well

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

I prefer grass as well....mind you, I've never smoked astroturf...so I can't 'really' comment

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

I like the grass too .. are we going to have real goals and a full size pitch like ?? Jumpers for goalpost wasnt it , isnt it ummmm ?

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

What do you mean Astroturf doesn't burn? You should take a look at my knees..

How about Dan Maier in the commentary box ?

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

Sting

I mailed Dan about the game...

Little boys, in the park...isn't it? "Can we have our ball back?", grumpy neighbours, smash a window...oooh! clip round the ear from the local bobby, hmmm, isn't it? Jumpers for goalposts...home in time for tea...ad infinitum

Definitely jumpers for goalposts and just to add that final piece of realism to the 'old days' I'll bring the dog along to drop a few turds for people to fall into.......ah well, I can just see it now, Paddy Freemans reincarnate!
