They think it's all over

Anybody see it last night ? What a complete prick Jonathan Woss is. The 'Goal celebration round' had this guy hopping on one leg after he'd scored, and Mr.Woss suggested it was because he was trying to catch the eye of Paul McCartney. What an absolute tosser.

I wouldn't say something like that about a makkem. Wanker.

Bill, I didn't see it but I heard it (I was "off stage" servicing the hedge trimmer for a heavy weekend). I can see how JR's comment could offend folks but that's the nature of commedy. IMHO, Ross is quite a witty, sharp guy and like many commedians, often pushes the boundaries of decency.

However, the programme is well after the watershed and far less offensive (again IMHO) than many others.

OK - off the fence. I think Ross is funny.

I think me and Bill are mostly offended cos Mr McCartney's lass comes from Washington :))

Actually....When I first read Bill's posting I was really offended but I've calmed down a little now....and just find it distateful...

Sorry but I watched it and laughed.

Pit Bill, have you ever laughed at any black comedy or laughed at/cracked jokes about human death and disasters?

I'm crap 'cos I don't get the hopping reference at all!

Anyone care to elaborate for the sake of sanity?

Sir Paul M is dating a lass who lost a leg in an accident

Cheers mate :-)

Yep, I can confirm that Ross was funny then :-)

The difference between acceptible black humour and the crap that woss came out with is that anything goes if the person being mocked is fictitious or is so obnoxious that they merit no consideration - hence 'woss' for 'ross' - and strictly speaking I suppose that makes me little better than he is

When guys in woss' position take the piss out of someone who can't defend themselves and are as they are through no fault of their own, I see absolutely nothing humourous. I can take the piss as well as anybody, but there are certain areas that are no-go as far as I'm concerned, and laughing at the expense of physically or mentally handicapped people is one of those areas.

That doesn't mean I won't apply words like 'spakka' to people who should know better, and who I know perfectly well are not really what the word implies. It's the unlikelihood of the 'cap fitting' that is the difference between acceptible black humour and plain offensiveness.

That may come across as a bit hypocritical, but that's a problem to do with how I'm exprssing myself, not in what I'm trying to say. Personally, I'd sack Jonathan Ross, at least from 'They Think ...'.

It's the easiest thing in the world to take the piss out of someone and make them feel less worthy, for want of a better expression. The skill is to take the piss and make them laugh.

Up to now, the worst I could say about Jonathan Ross is that he was outrageous. He's rock bottom in my esteem now.
