Euro 2000 Fantasy Football

Right, after a couple of late nights working on this, I've got the basics ready - ie a database full of the squads and some tables that will blow Softies CL tables away.

But here it comes..your chance of International Glory in the Daily Toon Euro 2000 Fantasy League.

It's your chance to pick a team of players and wait on the results of random games in the hope of being crowned the top of picking names out of a list in an abiding by the rules sort of way. (Results of Random games - that's just Softies league isn't it? Sort of but with this league there are only 2 current toon players and no jokers - apart from the Belgians ).

Have a gander aboot the site - you don't have to enter a team until the day before (although it'll stop my paranoia if you do :o) ) - and you can enter as many teams as you like.

Looks pretty good Scratchy, you will understand that I want to delay submitting a team until the final 22's have been announced.

I have one small point to raise, however, in your example:

"Example 1: Alan Shearer scores 3 goals against a weak German defence and scores 19 points (3 points per goal and a 10 point bonus for the hat-trick)"

Shouldn't Al get 21 points? Do you lose the 2 points for appearing if you score?

Hmmm - maths was never my strong point (or reading from the Sunday Mirror). He gets 19 points for scoring plus the 2 for appearing (I think the Sunday Mirror had to be specific with their readers for points awarded for the inevitable Shearer goal feast - except they only eluded to Mr Shearer - called him A Player - he's not even in the squad).

Only a few hours until the squads are announced...I've just got a couple of SQL statements to run:
delete from lookup_player where player_name in ('chimp','munchkin','mackem_twat') or player_name like '%barmby%'

so get researching....please...
