Appologies if this has been noted elsewhere:

Premiership chiefs have taken the bold step of chopping controversial referees Uriah Rennie and Paul Alcock from their retain list for next season. The decision to banish two such well-known names to the ranks of the Nationwide League next term comes on the back of a series of alleged blunders by the duo. Their relegation from the Premiership list is based on poor results in the referee's table - which is judged on assessors' marks, managers' reports and fitness. Both men are no strangers to controversy. Alcock was the official at the centre of the Paulo Di Canio pushing incident two years ago, while Rennie sent off eight players this season - more than any other Premiership ref - including England skipper Alan Shearer on the opening day of the campaign. Under the latest shake up, there is now a national list of 74 referees, which includes the new trimmed down quota of 20 Premiership officials

I was listening to a discussion of this on Radio 5Live. Apparently, this season the Premiership list will only be fixed for 3 months rather than the whole season. Changes will then be considered based on the performance evaluations over each 3 month period.
Seems like a good idea.

I'm not so sure. We could easily get to the situation where "certain clubs" come to have a big influence over the retention of referees.

Sounder, No names, no pack drill, eh?? I wonder who you could mean.

Its not what Sounder means.....but I have read the suggestion elsewhere that Jeff Winter is only being kept on the list because NUFC gave him full points for every game after he allowed the sent off Tranmere player to be substituted to knock the Makems out of the cup.

hehe ;0)

Screach

"No names, no pack drill"

One of my more un-neighbourly neighbours used that term, by way of inference, about another neighbour who she didn't like.

What does it mean???

I'm on a learning curve today :-)
