Epson Filmscan 200 + SCSI

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello,

I have a Epson Filmscan 200, which was delivered with a SCSI interface card. The interface card is a ISA slot card. Now, at this moment I changed PC, but this PC doesn't have ISA slots, only PCI slots. Which SCSI/PCI interface card can I use to get my scanner back to operation.

Thanks in advance, Marc.

PS. The pc does have USB slots, maybe a solution in that way is also possibile.

You can probably get away with most any PCI SCSI card - but, unfortunately, that is not always true. (Riddle - when is SCSI not SCSI?) You may want to contact Epson Customer Service for advice - but they will probably give you the same advice - "try one and see if it works."
Obviously this can be an expensive proposition - if you try one and it doesn't work most stores won't take it back - or will at least charge you a restocking fee.
One suggestion: Many communities have "computer recycling centers" or used computer stores. Go to one and explain your problem. You will most likely find an understading sole willing to give you a variety of cards (if they have them) to try then let you buy the one that works.
Good Luck Marc!

I'm not saying that they'll definitely work with your scanner, but check out the PCI bus cards that use Advansys chips. They're available under a variety of strange sounding names (Iwill, for instance), but they work very well, and are a fraction of the cost of same spec cards from Adaptec.

The chances are that a modern card won't use the same connector type as your Epson scanner either, so you'll also have to dig in your pocket for the price of an appropriate adapter lead. You're probably looking at the best part of $100 for the card and lead, I'm afraid.
