Transfer Gossip Thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Probably already got one of these threads but I couldn't find it so I started a new one ;)

Just noticed this in an article on Sporting-Life.

West Ham have already admitted an interest in Arsenal striker Davor Suker.

Now manager Harry Redknapp is keen on Nigel Winterburn, 36, who is currently on offer at #400,000, despite giving Arsenal 12 years' fine service at left-back.

A Hammers spokesman said: "It is true we would like them both. But things would have to happen, like others leaving, before any talks can take place."

So.......West Ham seem to be looking to sell someone before they can buy......could this give some credence to the Sinclair to NUFC rumour? Tenuous I know.....but that's my middle name ;)

Answers

I don't rate this Sinclair rumour at all. We don't need a right winger and although he could play on the left I don't think he'd be better than Dyer, Gavilan, Nobby switching to that side.

Made up by Cockney hacks I reckon or his agent!

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

The Journal this morning reckons the Toon have virtually agreed the signing of Argentinean, Christian Bassedas, for #3.5mm.
He and his agent will be in Toon next week to complete the deal.
Apparently he doesn't need a Work Permit, and with him not being a current international he won't be going AWOL for WC qualifiers over coming months.
Looks like the first one is in the bag, but how good is he?

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

I was looking at Sinclair for the left hand side but agree that it's almost certainly rubbish...

Bassedas....amazing how his price has gone up by 1million in a day!! 3.5 is just enough that he'd BETTER be good! I hope we've got a clause similar to Gavilan about not playing internationals...even though he's not an international yet we're surely expecting him to be good enough to become one or else why the f**k are we buying him?!?!

Still.....I'll continue to believe in YBR :)

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

I'm not sure about Bassedas as I had read somewhere that he had a few Argie caps but recent reports say he has none. Then the recent reports say a work permit wouldn't be a problem but if he is not an international how can he be considered good enough to get a work permit....unless he has a Spanish passport.

We need some more info on him but I'll trust the three stooges on this one.

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

I vaguely recall reading that he had a european passport of some sort....

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

I am pretty (well almost 100%) certain that Bassedas was, and still is, an established international. There is no doubt that he has has caps in the past. How many I'm not too sure of but he definietely has some.

Hope we do get to sign him, great player by the sound of things

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

Hes bound to be better value than Dacourt at 7.2 million- I also doubt YBR wud buy a single player he wasnt convinced about with all thats gone on in this club regarding transfers.

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

West Ham have other players in their squad. They have all those kids coming through and I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking to make space for some of them.

I'd cope with having a Frank Lampard in our midfield, a nice replacement for the Robert Lee of a few years ago ?

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

I think having a South American to play with is ideal. According to my new Brazilian friend Fernandra Argentines tend to be a bit dirty and hard tacklers. They also lack that Samba Rythm. Having said that, l think he will be tops. YBR wouldn't mess with this one. 3.5M is not major these days - if he succeeds - yes!

Personally l'm sticking with Colombians...

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

Re Basedas, I thought it was number of international games in the current year that governed whether or not a work permit was required. I can't see Bobby dropping such an obvious clanger if that's the case, so the EEC passport qualification seems a more likely one.

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

Calado from Benfica has admitted he is very surprised at suggestions he is set to join the Toon. He said he was aware of some interest but other English clubs have also shown interest.

So at the minute we have Speed, Lee, almost Bassedas. I think we still need one more but that will depend on how good Bobby thinks youngsters like McClen and Green are.

Owt new on Kiko?

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

His next movie is due out in the summer apparently....

Sorry.....

-- Anonymous, May 25, 2000

Only just walked in. Saw Gav exiting the stage at the left hand side, yelling for a cab, with his coat in his hand.

Kiko would be a dodgy buy with his injury record. I thought it would happen at the start of the week but now I'm not convinced.

Bassedas snubs Italy to join Toon revolution By John Richardson Argentina midfielder Christian Bassedas will fly into Tyneside next week to seal a #3million move to Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old, rated one of the most exciting talents in Argentina, is due at St James' Park on Tuesday for a medical and to sign a four- year deal worth #20,000 a week.

The transfer broke down earlier in the year when the Geordies could not agree a fee with his club, Velez Sarsfield, but Bassedas is so anxious to play in the Premiership that he turned his back on the opportunity of going to Italy.

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson is also close to agreeing a deal which would send central defender Marcelino back to Spain.

Signed by former boss Ruud Gullit for almost #6m last summer, the ex- Real Mallorca star is wanted by Valencia and they are prepared to pay #4.5m.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

Hmmm- Marcelino off for a loss of #1-1.5M. At least it's revenue for YBR to use to buy his own team.

I saw on Sly Sports last night (so it's obviously utter tosh) that Roberto Carlos wants to play in the Premiership. He's in England this wekend (a small matter of a football match at Wembley) but of course our top boys are sunning themselves in the Windies.....or are they. Keep an eye oot fer Shep or his mates in the posh seats on Saturday.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

Extraordinary - Marcelino goes up in price by 500k. He cost 5.5m last summer and I don't think we have to worry about paying any extra for appearances. They make it up as they go along.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

Another report today says Charvet to Fulham for #750k and Serrant to Sheff Utd for #250k With #4.5M for Marci and #1.5M for Maric (allegedly) this week's rumours are swelling the coffers.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

The Ronnie are now saying that Derby are also interested in Charvet, and that Bobby has priced him at 1 mil.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

But the official site are saying that no move has been made for Basedas. Looks like we're still hacking our way through miles and miles of believe it when you see it country.

On the Bad News front, there are reports that Barcelona's Luis Figo is set to move to OT.

-- Anonymous, May 26, 2000

....does that mean Giigs or Bex are up for sale then?? OK - thought so. That's a bugger. I've bleated ona and on about Figo in the past. I'll really p1$$ me off if he goes to OT. Not that I'd wish it on him, but he'll probably fail the medical now. Must have a word with my mate at the BUPA Hospital in Cheasle ;-))

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2000

The Mackems have made a #7 million bid for Belgian international defender Joos Valgaeren, according to reports in Holland.
Valgaeren plays for Dutch side Roda JC, and has also been recently linked with Spurs.

-- Anonymous, May 27, 2000

Ugo Ehiogu has apparently decided to leave Villa, declaring that he is determined to quit after 'becoming stale' at the club although there are rumours of a deteriorating relationship between him and John Gregory.
It is reported that manure, Leeds, Spurs and Arsenal will pursue his signature at around #6mm.
At this price he would be a great acquisition for The Toon, but suspect the final price will be higher if all the Clubs quoted decide to go for him.

Managerial merry-go-round.
Latest word is that Martin O'Neil will take over as Manager at Celtic, with Joe Kinnear finally spurning Sheff Wed in favour of Leicester.

-- Anonymous, May 29, 2000

They are expecting Martin OP'Neil to take over at Celtic on Wednesday but they can't announce anything solid at the moment because, according to the wires, "as they are a PLC they won't make such a major shares affecting announcement while the Stock Market is closed for a Bank Holiday"

Do you think that is why our transfer dealings have 'gone to sleep' for the weekend or is it different for new player announcements than it is for a manager?

-- Anonymous, May 29, 2000

What about the rumour that O'Neill wants KD out before he would officially take over?

-- Anonymous, May 29, 2000

I would think that is a certainty - he certainly won't want that lame brain lurking around the Club. Who would?

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2000

It is rumoured that with O'Neill taking the Celtic job, the mackems are bidding #6 million for Neil Lennon. Worth a bid to piss the mackems off. A very good player who is in the same mould as Batty was but offers a bit more going forward.

I think we've struggled ever since Batty left.

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2000

Erm are you serious De Builder? Imagine that g!nger G!t playing for the mackems. He'd get crucifiesd at SJ. Even if we did try and sign him do you honestly believe that the fans would support him? Or tha him and Al would be best of pals?

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2000

I must admit that had slipped my mind. However, i'm fairly sure AS wouldn't hold a grudge against him.

We abuse Lennon for proceedings I dare say the FA or Leicester City Football Club, brought against AS.

Were you were there at the Leicester game when Lennon came out onto the pitch on crutches and was asked by the Nob with the microphone, "Have you a message to Alan Shearer?", he laughed it off.

I take the point, though, it would be tremendous to take the piss out of the mackems for something new! He's too good for them though and it we want to tsee them relegated then they can't be allowed to get a hold of decent players like him, who could make them stay up.

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2000

Leicester away was so funny! All of us chanting Shearer's name as soon as Lennon came out. He did give us a wave, but didn't venture over too close. ;-)

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2000

Rush on Leicester players now. A Guppy or Muzzy would be nice.

Tre

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

Nah Guppy is about 31 now and it would appear that Bobby is going for youth.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

Apparently Don Hutchinson took the piss out of the Republic of Ireland last night in Dublin, on the football pitch!

Did anyone see it, I still reckon we could get this man for about #3million. If we don't/can't afford people like Enrique, then he'd do wouldn't he?

Bobby must be back from T&T by now, should we expect the transfers to materialise?

I believe I read somewhere that BR isn't back from the Caribbean until this weekend - presumably, in time for Euro2000. Things might begin to warm up soon - I certainly hope so.
The Journal this morning quotes our esteemed Chairman as saying they've had no offers for Dider Domi, and that he's not for sale. He says BR is not required to sell any of his better players to finance acquisitions.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

The Daily Star (reputable source?!) claims that Domi has issued a come and get me plea to PSG. I'd love to see him stay but only if he plays left back.

I don't think it is fair on a young player of his calibre to poay him out of position and I can see why he'd want to leave. I also have a lot of respect for Pistone, after this season, a difficult situation there.

-- Anonymous, May 31, 2000

NEWCASTLE UNITED youngster Didier Domi has expressed an interest in returning to his former club Paris Saint Germain - a move which confirms our earlier story about the French side monitoring the defender's situation. To read our earlier story, click here.

The French Under-21 international has been a big hit on Tyneside since his #3.25 million move from Le Championnat 18 months ago.

Domi spent four seasons with PSG between 1995 and 1998 and has stated that he would love to play for Phillipe Bergeroo's side once again.

The 21-year-old confirmed that he had been contacted by the Parc des Princes stadium side, saying: "PSG have made contact with me even though nothing has yet been settled."

Despite this, he stated that he would not be disappointed if he were to stay at St James' Park, saying: "I would love to wear the shirt again, but I wouldn t be upset at staying put for another season.

"The side has gone from strength to strength since Bobby Robson became manager."

Domi has also been tracked by Jean Tigana at Fulham, but the lure of Champions League football with the Paris club could be a deciding factor.

Robson will be aware that he can cash in on Domi to the tune of around #5 million and, with Alessandro Pistone an able deputy on the left-side of defence, the fee could be a major boost to The Magpies' transfer kitty.

CHIMPS SWING IN FOR AMORUSO

Rangers chairman David Murray has confirmed that the club have begun "initial negotiations" with Sunderland for Lorenzo Amoruso.

The Ibrox captain is still struggling with the ankle injury which kept him out of the Scottish Cup final.

But Murray is confident that a deal can be reached with Feyenoord defender Bert Konterman.

"There has been an inquiry and an initial negotiation with Sunderland about Amoruso," Murray told the Scottish Daily Mail.

"As for Konterman, we are hopeful of concluding matters with Feyenoord and then the player before the weekend."

Amoruso admits that he is ready to discuss terms with the Wearsiders but adds that he is no hurry to leave Ibrox.

"I've known about Sunderland's interest for about a month now but before anything can happen we will all have to sit down and see what is on offer," said Amoruso.

"There is no problem between me and Dick Advocaat but if there is an offer and it's good for Rangers and good for me, then it will be considered.

"But if it isn't good then Rangers aren't in a rush to sell me and I'm not in a hurry to leave."

Meanwhile Stale Stensaas has ended his years in the Rangers wilderness by signing for former club Rosenborg.

-- Anonymous, June 01, 2000

Reports today suggest Lorenzo Amoruso will turn down Sunderland and stay with Rangers.
He is quoted as saying he loves his life in Scotland and doesn't fancy moving to makemland.

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2000

not suprising.....would you want to move there!

-- Anonymous, June 03, 2000

The Sunday Sun today reports that BR has renewed his interest in 29 year-old Athletico Madrid keeper, Francisco Molina, for around #3 million.
However, Roma and Barthes-less Monaco are also interested.
Do we want another mercenary Johnny looking to jump ship from relegated Athletico? If BR thinks he's good enough I guess we do.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2000

I was told yesterday that Niclas Alexandersson was leaving Shef. Weds. For either Newcastle or Everton for #4m. I have not seen this anywhere yet, but I have been told by two different people. Anybody else heard anything?

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2000

I haven't heard this, but he's a good player who lays in one of our problem positions - so it wouldn't totally surprise me, although I'd set my heart on us getting Luis Enrique to play there.
If Alexandersen did come in I think we could probably then say goodbye to Didier Domi.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2000

I'd definitely have Anderssen....a class act...easily Wednesday's best player!!

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2000

Optasoccer reports that Domi has been talking to Monaco about a move. This is illegal surely, unless we have allowed it?

Fernando Miera is unlikely to be coming to the Toon as he hasn't sorted out his contract stuff.

Joao Pinto has been released by Benfica. He will star for Portugal in Ero 200 this summer. Bobby twitching at this one?

-- Anonymous, June 05, 2000

Nick Barmby has reportedly turned down an offer of a new #25k pw, 5 year contract from Everton after 3 months of negotatiations. This would make him joint top earner along with John Collins.
He has apparently been given the same 'take it or leave it' ultimatum that Don Hutchinson was given, and if he doesn't agree to sign after Euro2000 he is likely to be transfer-listed as his contract has only one more year to run.
Possible Toon target to solve both England and The Toon's left-side problem?

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2000

Planetfootball reports that Bobby is interested in Da Costa from Monaco. He is a midfielder who is comfortable playing the holding role. No more info I'm afraid.

Meanwhile the Express reckon we're in for Carl Cort who scored 15 goals for relegated Wimbledon last year.#7m

-- Anonymous, June 08, 2000

It appears that Richard Wright won't be signing a new deal with Ipswich over the summer. Which means he'll be on Bosman next summer with a tribunal setting a fee.

-- Anonymous, June 09, 2000

Ronnie Gill todays says Meira is in Toon to discuss signing. His dispute with the club in Portugal will be solved in two weeks and it is thought he will win ie fee will be free or a long way from the #3M asked. Contrary to common belief he is not a central defender but a left sided midfielder.
