Scanner Calibration, how do I ???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I need to know how to calibrate my Genius HR5 flatbed scanner, but I don't know how. It is scanning some internal parts of itself (when previewing), and when colored scanning/previewing it is cyanish or bluish, always. Some people told me about a sheet that comes with lots of colors for me to calibrate it, but I just couldn't find it. Some say that it also can be a file, a .TIF file, but I could not find it. But also, which software should I use for it to allign, because it sounds like this sheet will only calibrate it on colors, but my scanner is de-alligned too. Please help me as soon as possible.

Thank you.

You would need Kodak Q-60 (a.k.a as IT8 color input target). Kodak sells them as a reflective print and 35mm and 4x5 slide. You'd need the reflective, it is only 29USD. You will need the actual target, a file does not do any good by itself. When you have the actual target *and* a file that is an accurate simulation of that target then you can create a very accurate calibration for your scanner.

I have a detailed page about how to calibrate a scanner using the Q- 60, please have a look at:

http://www.aim-dtp.net/aim/calibration/index.htm

Click the link -Kodak Q-60 usage- and on that page click the - example2-. It is for Umax PowerLook III but the calibration procedure is good for what ever scanner. You can also download exact simulations for the Kodak targets there.
