Elgin get St James seats 24 May

Scottish League newcomers Elgin City have completed one of the more unusual transfers of the summer after snapping up 1000 seats from Premiership side Newcastle.

The seats have been removed from St James' Park in a controversial revamp of the stadium but Elgin, who have a 75-strong supporters club in Gateshead, have benefitted from the move.

But Elgin director Norman Green admitted that he was less successful in tempting the Magpies to part with another asset.

"Sadly, Newcastle wouldn't throw in Alan Shearer as well but the seats will help in our own upgrading ready for our Third Division baptism," said Green.
