Olds boys out of a job!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Blackburn have transfer listed Darren Peacock and Keith Gillespie. Two more casualties of the Keegan Era.

It begs the question that out of those Keegan boys who left the club, who has really gone onto bigger and better things.

Hislop - Better reputation Barton - Still going strong Howey - Jury still out! Peacock - See above Albert - Belgian football! Ginola - Player of year awards, still outstanding Batty - Career threatened by injury Gillespie - See above Lee - Twighlight of glorious career Shearer - Still going strong Ferdinand - Bit part player for Spurs.

The answer seems to be, stay at the Toon.

Somehow I feel that LR will make an appearance on here and list a great long selection of silverware collected by a certain Andrew Cole...

Then of course there's Tino, Beresford, Venison, Kilcline, Sheedy and that ever-so-forgettable duo, Peter Garland and Darren McDonough!

Ruel Fox, Scott Sellars, Marc Hottiger, Mike Hooper, Darren Huckerby...the list goes on!

Looking even further back, the Arsenal fans just didn't like SuperMac. However, more recently, leaving seems positively to benefit some players: Jon Dahl Tomasson, Andraes Andersson..

On the day of The Messiah's arrival, he called the players together at the training ground in Benwell as it was then. The team was in a relegation spot in Div 2, and the training facilities were a disgrace such that Keegan ordered the changing rooms to be fumagated.

The Messiah then spake unto his disciples, and he told them that they would never play for a bigger club - anyone who left, it would mean his career was going downhill.

Yay, verily a man of vision. Let's hope he's not on his way to being crucified in Euro 2000 (-;

BTW, Clarky mentions Darren McDonough. Am I right in thinking that although he was the first player to sign for KK, the deal was already in the pipeline before KK's arrival and was thus not, strictly speaking, a Keegan choice?
