New head nurse

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

To test our theory that TPTB lurk on this site and listen to our comments, let's vote for new head nurse. I vote for Yosh.

I put in my vote for Haleh. My husband agrees with me, so that makes 2 votes for Haleh.

His name has left me for the moment, but I suspect we might see the male nurse from ICU again, remember the super-nurse? He was diagnosed with something after he fainted and would recuperate nicely. He left an impression and seems to be a standout candidate like Carol was.

Possibly Malek????

-- Whitney (CWB Sierra Angel@aol.com), May 24, 2000.

I think Haleh is the obvious choice. Or Chuny.

-- debbie (riccardoiii@aol.com), May 24, 2000.

I would say Haleh would be the best choice. She took over for Carol when she was on maternity(is that right?). Although it may be kind of interesting for a guy to be head nurse. I don't think we will see Rambo back, but I would be all for seeing more of him :) What are the qualifications to be a nurse manager...do you have to be a RN as oppsed to LPN and are all these guys RN's anyway? Is that what Malik is? Sometimes he doesn't seems like he is as qualified as some of the other nurses. Anyway, you can tell I am not in the medical profession but I would love to know the answers if anyone can help!

I vote for Abby to quit med school and take Carols place. She was a competent nures but Doctor? I think not.

-- dena (dtucker73@yahoo.com), May 24, 2000.

Haleh all the way!

-- frances taylor (privyet001@aol.com), May 24, 2000.

Haleh, Haleh, Haleh!!!

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), May 24, 2000.

Well, if I were one of the nurses there, I wouldn't be voting for Haleh. . . we'd never get paid!!

-- joy (joygirl01@yahoo.com), May 24, 2000.

I want Chuny, but she doesn't seem like the type who would want to put up with all the administration, so I'm guessing it would be Haleh, but she gets so moody, I can't picture her dealing with things all that well. I want Abby to stay a med student for now.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), May 24, 2000.

Haleh seems to be the next senior nurse to Carol, and she's the one who always took over for Carol when Carol was out. But Haleh really didn't seem to like the job and was always glad when Carol came back. Haleh looks like the obvious choice, but I don't think she'd want it. My vote is for Lydia. Or maybe Rambo, the ICU nurse. If nothing else to see him rip off his scrub top to sop up some blood or something. :-)

-- S. Trelles (trelles@ix.netcom.com), May 24, 2000.

I'm really sick of Abby as a med student, so my first choice would be Abby (I liked her as Carol's OB nurse, but she is really doing poorly as a med student. Did the other med. students screw up as often as she has? :-).

If that's out, then definitely Haleh.

Ok, so why was I thinking about this topic last night? I was thinking it would be cool for Frank, the super nurse, to come back as head nurse. He seemed to have gotten a great reaction when he was on and I have liked the actor since Boyz N the Hood. But if not him, I have to go with my girl Haleh. Keep Yosh coming with the one liners!

-- Larry B. (larrybro95@hotmail.com), May 24, 2000.

Either Haleh, Lydia, or Chuny would be great! But it will probably be Haleh. I like her!

-- Stephanie (ERGirl22@aol.com), May 24, 2000.

Come on now, Haleh does not have the right attitude to be a head nurse. She's too unbending (-- It's my way or the highway, girl!) Better choices would be Conni, Lydia or even Yosh(longshot).

Whatever happened to the chick that was running Carol's clinic (Penny Johnson was the actress - can't remember the character name.) I guess she was Bobbed or Jerryed... She would be a good head nurse if she wasn't a nurse practioner. I think I'm going to go with Lydia but they'll probably bring in yet another new character... sigh.

-- Linda (l.brown@mindspring.com), May 24, 2000.

i dont think that ICU nurse OR abby would be a good choice, they dont really have any good ER experience, im voting for Lydia.

-- ALexis Springer (lexicat1@webtv.net), May 25, 2000.

I like all the nurses that are currently in ER, however, I suspect TPTB will not be able to resist the opportunity to add another character. But I think super-nurse Rambo would be a good choice. Maybe that's why they had him on...Maybe it was a sort of audition...maybe?

-- Claudia (claudia1624@yahoo.com), May 25, 2000.

I actually think that Lydia would be the best choice. She's very level headed, stays calm and rarely lets her personal moods effect her work. I think that Haleh, while obviously a wonderful nurse, doesn't have the right temperment. Heaven help us if they decided to make Chuny head nurse. She is so much of a gossip, can you imagine?

I would love to see Frank the Super Nurse return. He was such an interesting character, and I would hate to think that TPTB wasted all that good material on someone that was a throw-away.

As to if Abby should return to being a nurse - well we all thought that she was going to be the new charge nurse before we knew that she was coming on as a med student. I would only agree with this *if* they introduced another full time med student. It's a necessary thing for this program.

I think the most likely scenario though (althought the thought of bringing in another full time character makes me wince) would be for TPTB to bring in an entirely new character. Just as I feel that it is necessary to have a med student, I also feel that it is necessary to have a lead character in a nursing role. Since the previously mentioned nurses (with the exception of Frank) have all established themselves as supporting characters, I don't think you will see any of them elevated to main characters -- that just doesn't happen too often in today's TV.

Well, we'll all know soon enough. Fun to guess though!

I don't know if anyone else has said this, but Abby could run out of money for medical school--with the divorce and thieving husband and all--and have to go back to nursing, then discover that's where she's truly happy.

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), May 25, 2000.

My vote is for Lily. She is so competent and calm. I also absolutely love Yosh and he has been so funny lately! Abby can leave the show for all I care. Frank was annoying and if he's on all the time we can forget about Jing-Mei getting any work done.

-- Annie (GoldenLaur@aol.com), May 25, 2000.

While all the major nurse characters are great and the actors/actresses that play them fantastic, TPTB have to be realistic. While Haleh is the obvious choice she 1)has stated in the past that she doesn't like being head nurse; 2)I don't forsee much character development into a major character for her. I think Lydia has more possibilities. Promote her and then get "Super Frank" to take Lydia's job. And make the guy nurses wear tank tops or mesh scrubs! (Yosh is probably so-so, but Malik & Frank would be to die for w/out shirts!)

-- AmyE (roamyn@aol.com), May 26, 2000.

Or maybe they can bring back that one incompetent nurse from a few years ago who was floated down to ER and royally screwed up everything. Ha!

-- Larry B. (larrybro95@hotmail.com), May 26, 2000.

Perhaps they might start rotating head nurses and duties or get in a string of temps, the way they searched around forever for a chief attending. Can you imagine? That would be the sound of the Emergency Dept. crumbling and Kerry's composure going with it.

-- Seb (fusion@poppy.ocn.ne.jp), May 26, 2000.

The speculation about Abby becoming head nurse makes sense on too many levels (her horrid development as a med student--I'm not sure even Doug broke the rules as much as she does; her financial woes; her good reputation as an OB nurse)...so I'm sure we won't see that happen. :) I'd think it would make more sense to promote a new head nurse from within, but they didn't do that when they brought Kerry in as chief attending.

I'd vote for promoting Abby (I like the character and I like Maura Tierney) and bringing in a new med student...isn't it time they had a good, promising student again?

I also bet we're going to see Frank again--I agree that his one-time role felt way too much like an audition, and he seemed to have gone over pretty well.

-- Allen (allen@thunderdog.com), May 28, 2000.

They will probably make the Head Nurse position off-camera, just like they did with the chief resident position. Has anyone ever seen Linda, the person who succeeded Kerry as chief resident?
