Power Outage Affects La Verne

LA VERNE -- The failure of underground equipment caused 1,700 homes to lose power in the east side of the city Monday afternoon, said Gil Alexander, spokesman for Southern California Edison.

Power was restored to some homes within 20 minutes, Alexander said. However, others took up to 55 minutes.

The power outage began about 2:45 p.m. Workers replaced the broken piece of equipment, and are still investigating the cause of the malfunction.
