3,200 MRT Refunds

MORE than 3,200 MRT passengers have claimed their refunds, following a glitch in the automatic fare-collection system earlier this month. The glitch -- a software fault in the system -- led to excess fare of $890 being collected from the passengers.

An SMRT spokesman said last Friday that $251.80 had been returned to all 3,221 passengers who had applied for a refund. A balance of $638.20 has not been claimed.

That money, along with a matching amount from the SMRT, will be donated to the Community Chest of Singapore.
