The role of religious faith in DV?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : domestic violence : One Thread

I'm a first year medical student at Georgetown University and am currently taking an elective seminar on domestic violence. As a final paper I am writing about the role that religion/faith plays in the abusive relationship, both the positive as well as the potentially negative effects. Since there seems to be a paucity of information, I would appreciate any suggestions on where to look.

I have just started working as a domestic abuse advocate with a nonprofit group. I was intersted in your question . In my work I am not aloud to talk about faith wich has its good and bad qualities. I find that fo some victoims their faith is their only saving grace it if what helps them to get out of the situation that their in. Yet other times it can cause some tho stay. Some people think that God wants them to be the servent of spouse. This is usally only applies to women. There are even some ministeriers with in the christan faith that beleive that the woman is duty bond to stay with the husban no matter what. I personly find this to be a sick way of leading Gods children. I am a devote Christion and there for believe that faith plays apart of everything. True faith is not a down fall but an elevater to the top. To look for information try talking to different spirital leaders ask them what they think. Look into all diferent faiths Chrition, Jewish,Muslim ect... Good luck on your paper
