Oly 3030 vs 2020, 2.0 vs. 2.8

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm going to buy a digicam. I typically don't make large prints, usually 4 X 6. Every now and then, a 5 x 7 and perhaps once in a blue moon, an 8 x 10

Two questions: 1. Would I even want to bother with the 3030 or would the extra money be a waste?

2. Is the F2.0 lens on the 2020 significantly faster than the F2.8 lens on the 3030? I'm thinking in terms of night shots; not that I do a lot of that now, but if I had a good camera, I might start.

Thanks for your help and advice! Joe Fisher, Teacher, K-8 Marion, MT

I have been using the C2020 for about 3 months and find it an exceptional camera. It is very good in low light and the flash photos indoors are excellent. If you are not going beyond 8x10 the extra $500 for the C3030 in my opinion is not worth it.

Good Luck Tom

I was in the same boat one month ago. I chose the C2020 Zoom for the exceptional value, and the excellent photos I compared on this very site. I have printed 5x7's and they have been excellent. You can not go wrong with the C2020.

Good luck,

Dave

I agree, the C-2020 is an excellent camera and value. I take mine almost everywhere and it always rides in the bag with my Nikons. With the 3030 (and now the 3000) on the market, I'm wondering how many are still available to buy.

However, I find that the flash on this camera could be it's weakest link. It isn't as powerful as it needs to be, and redeye is horrendous - even with redeye reduction turned-on.

Thank you for all your responses. I decided to go ahead and get the 2020z. I bought it from Abe's of Maine for $565.00. Seemed like a pretty good deal. :-)
