T4--Distribute analinp to all judges?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MARP Editors : One Thread

QT brought forward an idea for T4 of not letting judges get a copy of analinp. This is now a good opportunity for private followup discussion.

I am not opposed to the idea, just wondering what the issues pro or con would be...

All the cons i can think of (besides the Rockford files) is that one of the judges would use analinp to devise an autofire mechanism that will get passed analinps detection. not a likely thing, so it doesn't seem bad to spread it around.

I really don't think it's much of a problem that all judges have analinp. INPhisto - ben jos's prototype giving a histogram of the frames separated by bit(I'll elaborate if requested) - should probably NOT be distributed as greatly. In other words, if a judge says autofire, we'll assure that using INPhisto.

That's my opinion on things. GB9

I still don't like the idea. Bad memories of a "MoSlo" discussion, and the scores that resulted on certain games in T1 and T2, and on the regular leaderboard. Further bad memories of someone posting how to "splice" recordings, and then what resulted a few days later. The judges don't NEED analinp, so why distribute it? The only scores that require an autofire check are the ones that look suspicious, and those can be reported by the judges to the head judge, Pat. In the case of an autofire, the player is disqualified from the tournament. That way we ensure that there are no player-judge vendettas during the tourney either, and we also ensure that our latest cheat-catcher does not get hacked.

I don't see any viable reason to take this risk...

Analinp doesn't need to be had by everyone. it seems reasonable to let the judges vice their opinions and then analinp be used as a post- determinor. if this is sufficient, then there is not a benefit for letting everyone have it. It contains code that could be used to hack m35tg3 files anyway.... not that it's all that hard if you don't have it.
