So what do you think will happen next season???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

So what do you think will happen next season? we have to wait such a long time till October! Does anyone think they will do an episode focusing on Carter only (maybe still in rehab) like they did with Benton the other season when Benton went down South. I think they should, they have not done a "Carter away from the ER" episode, like they did with Doug and Mark going to California. I think Carter will come back next season anxious to do well and not screw up... I think Romano will be on his case big time... I think the other ER doctors will not quite know how to treat him. Hope Carter rediscovers his passion for medicine. I think Mark and Elizabeth will break up, and I think Malucci will be a more major character...

I have no idea what will happen next season, but I do have several things that I wish would happen. First, I think that we need to have an episode where we see that Carter do some greiving, after all he has been numbing himself with drugs. I guess I am also a viewer who would like to see some closure between Carter and Lucy. I realize that I may have to wait (I only just got closure for Doug's exit last week) so I'm learning to be patient. Mark and Elizabeth seem to be getting pretty serious. Are they living together? So I don't know about them breaking up. Personally I think that the cast will be smaller next season. I being to like Malucci, especially after that dressing down he received a couple weeks ago, and I think he has potential. Unless they give Jing-Mei (sp?) and Cleo a good storyline I can't see them returning next season (although I think that Deb has more possibilities than Cleo). Also Abby is really starting to get on my nerves. In the beginning I really liked her, but now all she appears to be is self-righteous. I hope the TPTB make some changes with her. Plus, I think Luka and Abby should hook up. Afterall they have both been hurt, and I think they could relate well to each other. What do you think?

I like the idea of an eppy focusing only on Carter. We had that with Doug and Mark, just Mark, and just Benton. I think that it would be a chance to his his character develop even more, if that's possible, and see how hard it will be. Actually, now that I think about it, Benton should be in that episode too. To see THAT relationship broaden. A Carter and Benton eppy....sounds good. It really want that now, but we probably won't get it. :)

I think that it would be a huge mistake for Luka and Abby to get together. He has been through way too much to deal with someone like Abby. Abby is too uncertain about things, despite the maturity that arises here and there. Luka is grieving and needs support, and she doesn't seem like the right person to give it. It's not her intentions, but her character.

I would love to see Carter in rehab, dealing with his feelings, but I doubt they would open the season with focus on just one character. I bet the first show will be him returning, and I hope it's not on real time (I don't wnat to know that he's been there all summer). I want to see some welcoming back, some real support, maybe some pep talks to the staff about how to treat him, some Malucchi, Deb, nurses reactions, a resolution w/ Carter and Abby; maybe Mark and Kerry discussion that they need to be careful and not miss anything like they did before.

Like Emma, I would like some Lucy closure too. We know it is on his mind (Don't you think Mark shoudl have responded Carter's comment about her? I guess Carter went on quickly about not sleeping and maybe Mark thought he wouldn't want to get into that) Watching season 5, it kind of makes me mad they havent' done much with this. Yes, a lot of his problems have to do with Lucy dying (I doubt he woudl be having such severe problems otherwise), but they need to say more than that it's there, they need to explain it! I thought they made him hard on her that day for a reason!

I don't think Mark and Elizabeht will break up any time soon.

I think it would be great if Carter is just coming back at the start of the season.

Being away all summer seems accurate considering the importance of his job. You can't have someone preforming as a doctor unless you are sure they are clean.

Now is the time to put in your wish lists folks. After watching the show the last few weeks, I am becoming more and more convinced that TPTB lurk around this BB for ideas!

I would LOVE to see an epi focus on Carter and his rehab. As someone above mentioned it would be nice to see Peter in it too. Maybe it could be when he is getting ready to leave the facility and Peter comes to greet him and bring him home?! I don't think it is at all unrealistic to think he could be in there several months (on another post someone mentioned a relative that had been at this same facility. She was there 3 months which the poster said was a relatively short stay). I would also like to see his friendships with Jing Mei and Malucci materialize. I will be anxious to see how the feelings will be when he comes back. Will Carter be resentful of the others - especially Abby (i would like to see a scene eventually where Carter talks with Abby and tells her he understands why she did what she did and thanks her). Or will he realize they saved his life and forgive them? Will they all trust HIM? Or will they be watching over his shoulders to make sure he is OK? There are so many possibilities here to explore. I can't wait to see what happens!!

I think most of us are missing the friendhips: mark&doug, kerry&jeannie, etcetera. Maybe next season should focus on building new friendhips. I think we need more that than new romances. Maybe Kerry and Abby could be friends; Carter and Benton must have a new relationship, Mark needs a friend, and somebody should help Malucci to be a better doctor. I'd like to know more about Kerry.

I think Carter will just be coming back to the ER, having been in treatment for 30-60 days and out for the rest of the time, learning to recover. It's true that coming back to the ER, where drugs are so available will be difficult, which is one of the reasons to have a special treatment center for doctors. Can you imagine a bartender returning to that job after recovery?! I think Deb will be chief resident. I think Abby will be back (I actually liked her a lot better last night and thought she, and her hair LOL, looked so much better and brighter), but am not sure about Cleo. Elizabeth might have to eventually decide between Mark (stable love) and Peter (passion). Malucci will get into trouble again and eventually start to change. Luka...I don't know and don't care as long as he's in lots of scenes. :)

Rehab programs vary from a few weeks to three months. There are a few longer ones , but that is not typical. Those longer programs are normally for ones who are in and out of rehab. CArter's would not be that long since he only used pain killers for three months. I imagime Carter's stay will most likly be 4-8 weeks.

Sometime during nov sweeps I want a ER based Carter focused episode dealing mostly with carter that shows something positib=ve happening to him that shows he has overcome his problems. This episode will totally gain Carter's confidence and trust back in himself. and the staff's trust in him. This way the rest of the season , Carter can concentrate on other things that will make his character even better and more mature. I want to see Carter deal with his return to the Er in the fiorst few episodes showing him at work at him talking to colleagues and psychiatrist in an out patient basis. I don't really need them to make a issue of Lucy. I think Carter should mention her in passing, but I don't think he should just mnention her. There was a lot more going on with him than that. I would love to see Carter be well enough to be chief resident next season, but I doubt it will happen. If Carter is not chief resident, I hope we don't know who it is. I hope Romano does not know an=bout Carter . If he does I hope the staff and gamma puts him in his place. I'm sure gamma knows all the hospital board members.

I forgot to mention earlier a few things. I was trying to type fast because the weather was bad here. I left out some stuff earlier. I think Carter will return to work as soon as he is released from rehab after probably 4-8 weeks. I think that getting him back to work as soon as possible will be good for him as long has his hours the first few weeks are not long. He will continue to receive out patient couselling once he return to work. I think if he is sent home and not working for awhile after that it would cause him more time to worry about how people react and for him to lose confidence in his abilities. I think the best thing is for him to go back to work immmediatly on a reduced schedule at first. I really hope that Chen is not chief resident. If carter is not it, maybe we won't know who is . Though I will not be surprised that Chen will get ii because of Carter's problem. If they go that route , I would love to see Carter get an attending slot the following year.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), May 19, 2000.

I completely forgot about the chief resident spot. Wow, maybe I forgot because Carter also seemed to forget; except maybe when he told Malucchi he'd work for Mark because he was the senior resident. Other things were definetly on his mind other than the chief resident spot. I like Deb but because Carter would have been the best choice before all of this, I hope she's not it, just for the sake of Carter. THey haven't even really talked about it, but before the attack, it seemed Kery was all ready to get Carter the spot.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), May 19, 2000.

I too hope it's not Deb, like I posted above, but that's one of the first things I thought after seeing Carter on the plane: he'll be gone awhile and she'll be "Chief Resident."

-- Diana (dilynne@juno.com), May 19, 2000.

i agree with whomever said that they need to concentrate more on friendships rather than romances for awhile. get on with the traumas, the really good cases, and some friendly interactions with the characters!!! they have all been wrapped up in their personal problems, there has been no one for ANY of the characters to confide in, and also all that new dtaff, you cant really confide in someone who you dont really know very well. everyone needs a friend, scpecially Luka and Carter. and Abby

-- ALexis Springer (lexicat1@webtv.net), May 20, 2000.

I hope Mark and Elizabeth get married. They've been dating for a year now, they seem happy together, it's the next logical step. I find it highly unrealistic that none of the characters on the show are married; none of the ER docs, none of the surgeons except Anspaugh. I'm not sure about the nurses, I think Lydia is, but I don't know about the others. Hopefully they will fill Carol's place by focusing more on one or more of the other nurses.

Do you guys really think that Carter is going to come back and pick-up where he left off in his career with no disciplinary actions or anything? He was shooting up on the job - he was stealing meds to keep up with his habit. He was treating patients while under the influence. (Even if it was just 1 time - we don't really know, do we.) He may loose his residency, especially if Romano finds out just what was going on. I think next year is going to be a struggle for Carter just to get back to where he was before he ever heard the name Paul Sobricki.

-- Linda (l.brown@mindspring.com), May 20, 2000.

Carter won't lose his residency because Noahhas at least two years left on his contract. If Carter is not a dr. , he won't beo on ER. I doubt Carter will be on probation.Carol was not put on probation when she stole drug from the drug lockup to attempt suicide. They mentioned in the finale that they can't do anything because they have no proof and that Carter has a legitamite prescription for pain killers. They also went to great strides to help him unofficially. Romano may not even know where he went. Because Carter went to rehab and got help they won't fire him. Since it was done unofficially and carter checked himself in , once he returns I don't think he will be on probation for a short period of time. He will be watched very closly the first couple of months or so until they are certain that he is okay and back to normal.

-- Brenda (jckwfan@aol.com), May 22, 2000.

I think that Carter will be fully recovered by next season, and he and Mark will make billions investing in a company that manufactures suspenders and clogs. Cleo will have a face transplant and actually be able to register an expression or two, much to the delight of Benton. Dr. Dave will open his own clinic/lube shop. Luka will quit the hospital and become a priest. Abby will dye her hair blond and wash it, in preparation for Carter's return. OK, that's all my imagination has got at the moment. *sigh* :)

-- Cecelia (evilstoat@hotmail.com), May 22, 2000.

I think Season 7 will begin with Carter's first day back from Atlanta. I also would like to see him grieve over Lucy - that really needs to be addressed. A Carter only eppy would be great, too. Friendships between Carter, Deb, & Malucci would be nice to see. Carter apologizing to Abby is called for - maybe they can have a talk on their cigarette break on the roof! More Benton & Carter scenes, please!!

-- anne (sapphire_172@hotmail.com), May 22, 2000.

i think in seventh season Mark and Elizabeth will become engaged and Elizabeth gets prignent. They Mark will get a brain Tumor. And then Elizabeth suffers painful contraction when she is sent to a train wreck on the 150th epesode.

Carry, it was really unfair of you to withhold this information for 10 months! :)

when does next seasons ER start anyways? can someone re-tell what happened the last few episodes of ER...I was out of the country doing an intern. Someone please tell me what happened the last few episodes (last season)..... THANKS

-- moi (usaidtht9times@yahoo.com), July 29, 2001.

try the alt.tv.er summaries - www.digiserve.com/er/episodes/ there are really good summaries of everything through "rampage," which was the 2000-01 season finale. i don't know when the 8th season (2001- 02) will begin. last year it started in october, but everything was later because of the olympics.

-- e. kerry (efields01@yahoo.com), July 30, 2001.

I agree, Jules (May 19, 2001). The romances are great fun, but fundamentally a community, such as in the work place, survives because of the enduring friendships and trust. I'd like to see Luka and Kerry continue what appears to be a blossoming friendship. I think it was brave and sweet that Kerry confided in Luka about her breakup with Kim, especially given how desperately she guarded that relationship. She obviously needed someone to talk to..and she rarely does that. We know too little about her. Maybe Luka can teach her to lighten up and bend the rules. And yes, someone does need to teach Malluci to be a better doctor, among other things...
