Long weekend... what to do?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread

It's a long weekend in Canada... Victoria Day is May 22nd... and I'm looking for suggestions of fun, inexpensive stuff to do, other than the standard see-movies-read-books-sleep-drink.

Go fishing.

Seriously.

The most fun I've had in weeks.

Or go somewhere close to where you are, rent a hotel room, and have a little mini-vacation.

Pack a picnic and head for the great outdoors. Leave the towns behind and go for a national park or something like that. Take a good book and your loved one, and chill out. Have fun!

Make a big breakfast. Bicycle. Picnic. Get on the roof. Lie in the grass. Visit somebody. Talk to a neighbor. Swim. Sail a boat/canoe/inner tube. Suntan. Hike. Walk. Jigsaw puzzles. Plant flowers. Museum. Theatre. Art Galleries.

We're going to the "Bay to Breakers" race on Sunday morning here in San Francisco. Not to compete, but to walk along the route and gawk at the costumes.

Fishing. Wow. I would never have thought of that, but it sounds like a lot of fun. (It also sounds like a lot of work to arrange since I don't know anybody with a boat or any lakes I can walk to, but I bet that's just ignorance and if I ask around, somebody will tell their sister or friend or something is the Nova Scotia Fishing Champion.)
Actually everything above sounds like fun. Museum/theatre/art galleries I'll have to skip as they'll be closed (Victoria Day is a statuatory holiday, like Christmas, so I think everything is closed) but that's something to think about for next weekend. Halifax has some really neat museums, and I haven't been to the Natural History Museum for over a year. Hmm.
Any other suggestions?

I'm going to Fort Edmonton Park. Sunday is going to be nice and sunny, so I'm going to walk around and play tourist. Since I've only lived here a year and a half, so I guess I can get away with it. If you can do something like that, go for it. Just don't forget the sunscreen.
