Of course they've gone down, insiders have leaked the fact that we will be spending all the ntl cash on players leaving precious little for dividends...either that or the rumoured shortfall in uptake of new, expensive seats has provoked worry over our ability to stay competetive and repay the loan on the stadium [gulp].

I was waiting for that .. the lesson to be gleaned there is dont let your heart rule your head . I also lost a fortune in footy bets this season on the Toon .. including makkum bets which has been very disappointing , grrrr : - ((

I pretty much gave up betting on NUFC years ago (apart from the odd drunken one now and again!)....it just makes it doubly painful when you lose :((

Mind you.....I must admit to being tempted to buy at 54p a share....I reckon we've turned the corner, will fill the ground, make a couple of big purchases and generally be on the up from here on in....

Gav, I said that two weeks ago when I bought a thousand at 56p.

The thing is, what we have to accept is that, Doug and Fred have most (65%)of the shares, NTL a further 9.9 and the rest, apart from an individual who owns about 4% of the shares, are owned by Toon fans. There are no institutional investors to speak of. It is therefore Toon fans who are putting the price down.

Crikey Dougal.... when you said you were wanting to lose 500 pounds I didn't think you meant Stirling! ;-))

It's not really important is it....at the end of the day I'd only ever buy them to hold onto :))

Still it's nice to know that they're worth the same as you paid for them I suppose....

Interesting point Dougal. If there really are no institutional investors to speak of, and the market is as illiquid as you say, the shares could shoot up if performances improved, and those institutional investors decided that they indeed wanted to be part of the inevitable (how I wish)success story that is NUFC.

HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS, THEY'VE GONE UP TO 55P!!! THE RECOVERY HAS BEGUN.

Yeah, Gav, I've bought them mainly just to have them, if you see what I mean. Jonno gets all sorts of perks (well, the annual report and the chance to go to the AGM) out of being a shareholder((-:

Geordie - LOL. Actually, I though that if I spent the #500, I couldn't buy loads of chips with it ((-:

Howay now who's the snaeky moenybgs on here ? eh ? eh ? They are now 58 p up 4.00% on the day .. when will you be taking profit Douggie ? : - )

dougal,

You say...."There are no institutional investors to speak of. It is therefore Toon fans who are putting the price down".

As a fan who invested at #1.35, #0.96, and #0.85 I can assure you it isn't the fans who have pulled the share price down, other than on the margin.

I'm sorry to raise this again, but the reality is that the institutional investors largely exited after wor Fred and Duggie made the Club a laughing stock in the City and dragged its name into the gutter. The City has NO confidence in Management, and has seen precious little evidence to cause it to change that view.

The appointment of BR is the about the first thing management have got right since SJH resigned, and it will take sustained improvement (or a takeover, which is unlikely) on the playing field, on the balance sheet, and in its relations with essentially every key constituency to significantly move the share price forward.

I do, of course, have a vested interest in hoping I'm wrong. Good luck with your own investment.
