Off Topic: Bosvelt not coming to Toon

In case anyone's still interested in football talk..... ;-)))

From the Ronnie:

NEWCASTLE have missed out on top transfer target Paul Bosvelt - because a frustrated Bobby Robson wasn't able to raise the cash in time.

United have gone back to Bosvelt's Dutch club Feyenoord only to be told that the midfielder is now off the market.

When the Magpies made their initial approach during the season Bosvelt (pictured) was available at #2 million but at the time chairman Freddie Shepherd was unable to loosen the purse strings.

United kept in touch with his agent Bob Muscaat - and once Robson was allocated #15 million for transfers they made a move again.

Newcastle believed the asking price would have jumped to #5 million because in the meantime Bosvelt had been called up to the Dutch national team by Frank Rijkaard.

However United have now been informed that Bosvelt has been made Feyenoord skipper and talks are taking place to extend his contract by another two years.

It's a frustrating re-run of the Olivier Dacourt situation for Robson.

When United first approached his French club Lens, the midfielder was on the market at #4 million but with Newcastle unable to make any financial promises the figure eventually jumped to #7.5 million and he signed for Leeds United.

Meanwhile Robson is considering a #2.5 million bid for another target Christian Bassedas.

Coach Mick Wadsworth flew to Argentina last weekend to watch Bassedas when Fiorentina were also represented.

Wadsworth then flew straight to Trinidad and Tobago to link up with United and give his assessment to Bobby while on their sunshine break.

Blackburn Rovers boss Graeme Souness has discussed a possible move for United striker Duncan Ferguson but ruled it out.

I thought you'd turned those poxy italics off!!

Anyway...I read this and my first thought was that it could just be a negotiation tactic on Feyenoords part?

I guess even if it's true then it's just one of those things that we have to live with......the money just wasn't there :((

Now someone turn these italics off!!

Do you have hair on your palms, too, Gav?! They ARE off! ;-)))

And it now looks like Carl Serrant's move to Sheff Utd is off because he 'isn't match fit'. Those 13 are turning out to be a real millstone.

How bizarre!! they are definitely on in front of me as I type...but when posted they disappear!

I dunno what you've done to bugger this up :((

It's because the close italics tag is in the followup posting. When you type a response, you are only seeing the original posting.

It's gonna be a long close season.... ;-)))

It's ALWAYS a long close season.....

KK's making encouraging noises about Barton. If he can keep improving the way he has this season, it wouldn't be too improbable he'll play for Engerland again.

A time scale was glaringly conspicuous by it's absence, though, so you have to conclude 'believe it when you see it'. I can't, even though I've sort of seen the error of my ways in thinking him a complete waste of space.

He still gets caught out with his positioning, but if you gave me a choice between having Dyer or Barton as right wing back for Ingerlund, there'd be no contest.

I wish to God KK would drop his fascination with playing attacking players in every position and face up to the fact that it only ever worked once (against Ferencvaros) and that most of us much preferred the game, the style and the result when we played it tighter against Man Utd in the same season.

That style only works when you keep winning games by the odd goal in seven, not losing them.
