Oly 3030 and sharpness of images. HELP PLEASE!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I've had a 3030 for a couple of days and I am distressed. Though I like the way the camera operates, I have noticed that my images don't appear sharp anywhere in the frame when the sharpening mode is set at normal. With sharpening set to hard they are crisp but sometimes with alarming colors providing the contrast along objects' edges. The one exception has been the few macro-mode shots I took using flash. On those I could at least tell where the focus area was.

Has anyone else had this experience with this camera or did I get a lemon? The pictures do sharpenen up nicely with good detail in a photo editing program, but shouldn't they be fairly sharp right out of the camera? They were with my Oly 600. Oly puts an outlet on the camera that lets you feed directly to a printer, but I can't imagine anyone thinking these pictures were ready to print as is. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks

It's usually a good camera, possible you got a lemon. Are you taking a lot of pics at the max zoom? If so camera shake causes blur, I guess that is obvious but maybe new photographers don't realize. Try take pics from a tripod, if it's still blurry you have a problem.

Oh I almost forgot. Another way to sharpen up pics that doesn't occur to people often, is use a flash. The less light you have the longer the exposure needed, the more camera shake/blur you get. So taking pictures in good light or with flash can sharpen your pics.
