Hunger strike suggestions needed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I/m doing a 40 hour famine thingy over this weekend to raise cash for World Vision. Given that I'm planning on being too weak to turn on the Cup Final, I was wondering what strategies people suggest for getting through. Should I start eating less a day or so beforehand, or pig out like there's no tomorrow in the hours leading up ? Anyone have experience, or what would you do ?

Loony, my daughter is doing this as well. She is 12 and this is her 3rd attempt.

She drinks lots of Apple/Orange juice.

" She is 12 and this is her 3rd attempt. She drinks lots of Apple/Orange juice "

So do I deduce from the above, Guster, that she has tried and failed twice so far, and that I should therefore be avoiding fruity beverages ??

.... and you thought you were in line for bbs pedant nominations ..... ;o))

Don't pig out - it'll make you hungrier (perversely). There's only one answer: sleep through it((-:.

Yep - definitely eat less in the run-up otherwise, as Dougal was warning, your stomach expands and you want more nosh

Loony

I only need a pedant to go with my brooch and earings.

She has COMPLETED the 40 hr famine previously and is now on her 3rd attempt. Of the first 2 one was official and the other was a weekend I had enough cash for a few drinks or some food. So I told her it was a social experiment.................

Hmmmm. Not eating much beforehand seems to be the way to go then (and Dougal should know eh? Mind, I'm not planning on taking up smoking to get me through my 'diet' ;O)). Pity, I was kind of hoping I could knock off work early on Friday, run to the nearest all-you-can-eat buffet, then do an impression of a camel and feed off the accumulated fat for the following 40 hours.

Bill - very kind of you to offer some sponsorship money, though it would probably be easier what with exchange rates etc. if you gave the money direct at your end. For anyone UK-based who's interested in cyber-sponsoring me, check out where you can send your contribution via www.worldvision.org.uk. Anyone in the rest of the world, it looks as if you can track down your local branch by going to www.wvi.org and following links to your own country's site. Let me know if you decide to do so and I can pass on the news to the World Vision people here in Oz.

PS. Running sponsorship total so far is around the $500 mark. PPS. I've been diddled. Looking at the UK site for World Vision, it appears that you only have to fast for a measly 24 hours over there. Wimps !! ;o}

Wish me luck

Cheers but no cheers Kenny. I meant it when I said on another thread that I have no interest in this year's FAC. Looking forward to Valencia-Real next week if you're up for it mind ? See you at foota on Sunda. I'll come with me boots just in case, but I don't anticipate playing due to being all overcome with weakness and fatigue like (woe is me - I'll be the pasty one on the sidelines with a nurse at my side).

Loony you said

"(Woe is me I will be the pasty one...........)"

So the 40 hr famine wont change owt then!!!!!!!!
