How low tech do you want it? One sturdy stick, shaped to fit your hand at one end, about 2' long. Drill a hole near the other end. Get another sturdy stick about 2-3' long (round or flat, both have their fans) and drill a hole in one end of it. Using a sturdy piece of leather, tie the 2 sticks together so there is a gap of a couple inches between them. Spread the peas or beans on a tarp or clean floor, and start whacking. For smaller quantities, put the peas or beans in a heavy cloth bag and whack. Or for that matter, skip the sticks and walk on the things.

Other than that, I have no plans for building a sheller. Watch for farm auctions that have old stuff at them. You might be able to find something at one of them. Gerbil

How about this (snipped from elsewhere in web-world):

"Plans are available from Mike Boyette , Extension Specialist at North Carolina State Univ. His e-mail address is boyette@eos.ncsu.edu He sends them out free of charge and very quickly. "

best of luck

J, I emailed an inquiry about the plans and was told they are no longer distributing them. If you have a copy, would you post the full title and any ID numbers so I could see if my extension office can get their hands on a copy? Gerbil

Sorry but I don't have any plans. I did a search and found this. If I get a moment tommorrow, I'll check out some more sources and post accordingly. Sorry for the dead end.
