Parts of Providence and Cumberland were without power last night for about 30 minutes around 7:30 p.m.

Providence businesses and homes around Eddy, Richmond and Point Streets lost power for about a half-hour because of an underground problem, according to a Narragansett Electric Co. spokeswoman. Power to about nine homes in the area could not be restored until several hours later.

A drifting balloon caused another outage, in Cumberland, that left about 185 Narragansett Electric customers around Bryant Street without power for about a half-hour.
