Carter's character change

Is it just me or has this been a brilliant character series for Carter? The acting has been compelling and excellent, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Exactly! And the thing is, it's so different from the Carter we know, that when I first heard what they were going to do to his character I just couldn't picture it. But NW is doing so great at it, I have never been this excited about a show, just for one character (okay, maybe except with Doug and Carol too). I am a bit nervous as to what they'll do with him...I want his problems to start to resolve this week, but I also want to see more next season (and I'm sure the producers do to, since it is such an effective storyline). We have an idea of what will be happening Thursday, but really we don't have any idea of in what way. Will he run away or won't he?

I agree, Anna, this series has been great for Noah Wyle. He makes me care about Carter as if he were a real person.

In the six years I have been watching ER, I have never been more engrossed in the plot than I am at the moment. This whole Carter thing really has me on the edge of my seat. The talent Noah Wyle has exhibited these past few weeks takes my breath away. He doesn't just play Dr. John Carter. He IS Dr. John Carter. It's rare that I have seen an actor play a television character so believably. He's done such a great job that I find myself thinking of Carter as if he's a real person. I can't wait to see what happens. Only three more days!

Yes... Carol fans feel free to hit me over the head with an anvil, but... now that _______________________________Carol is gone, I'm glad that the show can concentrate on a character who actually has other problems and motivations besides which man she wants to kiss... so I am also excited about Carter's storyline and about the end of this season and the start of the next one.

Your responses have been what I have been meaning to say...since I live in the UK, I am getting insomnia from anticipation..maybe that is too much, but hey, I love how Carter's character is developing- if anyone deserves an Emmy, its Noah Wyle.

I couldn't have said it better, Debbie. I was VERY sick of Carol's kiss-any-guy-I-meet-and-then-go-into-depression-because-it-wasn't-the- guy-I-made-babies-with attitude and I'm glad she's gone and we can concentrate on Carter and his more SERIOUS problems. Yell at me, Carol fans, for all it's worth, but I seriously am glad Carol's history. I do think Wyle should is the world's best actor. He just portrays Carter better than anybody else ever could. I'm confident that WHEREVER the screen writers go with Carter's character, Wyle will act it out perfectly. I loved this season's ups-and-downs for Carter, and while I'm ready for it to be over, I did enjoy Wyle's superb acting this season!

Whoops! Typo! :o) I mean, I think Wyle IS the world's best actor! :-)

About Noah Wyle being the "world's best actor": I think he's one of the best of the cast they have now. He just assumes the role of John Carter so well, it's amazing. I really think that when ER goes off air that he'd probably be one to have a promising career either on the big screen. He a great actor.

For those who think that Carol's "sob story" was too much, I can see your point, but I actually loved this. We get many different problems and many different aspects in this show. I know her problems seem trivial compared to Carter's, but it is something that a lot of people can identify with. Many people (including me!) know what it's like to find someone they know they should be with, but because of problems and uncertainties they can't do what their heart knows they should do. So anyways, ER has the action, humor, sentiment, professionalism (Kerry), charistmatic, hopeful romance (Doug/Carol), realistic romance (Mark/Elizabeth), *physical* romance (Benton/Cleo), emotional drama (Carter), class (work) clown (Malucchi), etc. They cover every aspect people want out of a show very well.

Marie, I'm with you. I've enjoyed Carter's story this year. But the Carol thing took much too long to wrap up. I mean did they really expect us to believe she had a future with Luka when we knew she was leaving the show? Well, maybe we could have suspended disbelief if it had been written well enough, however... I did enjoy the romantic ending, but they could have done it in November when the twins were born!!

Maybe it's a bit much to say that Wyle (or anyone) is the world's best actor, but as handsome young TV actors go, he's really one of the best and most promising. What I like about him, is that one really can see him being an even better actor in 10 years' time and still doing good work in good projects. He seems to be able to handle anything the writers throw at him, whether it is being bright and entertaining (you saw some of this in "Loose Ends" I think where he was showing Abby the camera) or playing more heavy scenes. It's been so amazing to see him "grow up" on camera from this bumbling young 23-year-old to a more mature doctor who's approaching middle age! He seems like an intelligent actor who will make good choices in his career. Right now though I like him just where he is.
