Which software is better

I intend to buy one of this software, can anyone with experience using AVI_IO and VirtualDub, tell me which one is better and what are your reasons?

You will not buy VirtualDUB ! It's free...

These software are quite different in nature. AVI_IO directly address 2 GB limit which can be significant barrier in video capturing process. It overcomes this limit by creating more than one AVI files ready for your capture process. They claim that the transition(s) between two AVI files will not drop any single video frames. You can also download a demo version which has limit of three files (worth of 6 GB AVI capture) VirtualDUB will as well address the size limit by being capable of creating a video file larger than 2 GB (one single file). On top of that (this is actually what people are more interested in the software) VDUB can do filtering and compressing both video and audio. It also has a nice feature of AVI proxy server (I tried once but the audio packets lag behind the video)

So very clear, to me, I'll go and choose VDUB for whatever your requirement is. Mike

Thanks for info. I have download a copy of VirtualDub and tried the software but I cannot name the file name other than the default 'CAPTURE' file name. Can I go around it???
