A quick question for Geordies in Australia

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Can someone tell me what colours Box Hill of the Victoria State League (I think) wear? I don't think I'm alone in having chosen an Australian team to follow as a child, when looking at the summer pools coupons. Box Hill were mine but I'd hate to think that they wear red and whites stripes! I haven't seen them on the coupons for a while and so assume that they got promoted to the State League but any info at all would be gratefully received.

Answers

SMB Don't think anyone on the BBs lives in Victoria.

I've never heard of Box Hill but I will be in Melbourne, Victoria next weekend and will make discreet inquiries if no one comes thro with an answer.

Hiro,

I've had a bit of a trawl round the web and it appears it is in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne......not one mention of footy though.

Can I just say that I am NOT, nor have I ever been, an Australian.

It's a mistake too many people are making around cyberspace, and I want it stopped!

SMB

In 1996 Box Hill finished 12th (out of 14) in the Victorian Premier League.

At the end of that season 3 "Italian" sides amalgamated. "Soccer" in Australia is based around ethnicity. IE South Melbourne, you MUST have heard of them, they joined manure on holiday in Brasil this year!!!!! Were originally Sth Melb. Hellas, we also had Marconi and Sydney Olympic, Adelaide Juventus etc.

Anyway, back to the tale. Box Hill was one of those Italian based sides. Their full name was "Box Hill Inter"

Does that bit help with the original question. At least they are not Red and White stripes!!!!!

They are now gone, extinct, they are an ex club etc etc.

However the team that was formed from the 3 clubs were called Bulleen Inter until this season and are now known as the BULLEEN ZEBRAS

So although Box Hill are no more the team they have become DO PLAY in BLACK and WHITE.

What a selection all those years ago
