What I foresee is a world of delays, shortages, inconveniences, screwups, limited power and banking problems, and a reduction in both the quality and availability of medical care and communications. I see widely scattered but locally severe (up to Bhopal-level) crises worldwide. I see all of this made randomly better and worse by government intervention. I foresee some deflation, and a significant stock market hit. I expect key ingredients in many processes to go missing for a fairly extended period, forcing appropriate workarounds. I expect large and financially vulnerable groups of people (the elderly, those living on entitlement programs) to find themselves in untenable positions, with limited adaptive success. I expect high unemployment for several years minimum. I expect no shortage of chains of events that would amaze Rube Goldberg, and most of them unfortunate.

There's a rather significant difference between this post of Flint's in January of 1999 and Big Dog's of December 1999. Flint continued to look at accumulating evidence throughout the year and became more optimistic. Big Dog presumably looked at the same evidence and still thought things would be bad. Very few people are ever right about a future event right from the beginning, myself or Flint included. Your predictions as the event draws closer are what seperates those who are able to learn and those who have a fixed view.

I understand. About half of my posts on the ol board weren't mine. I can verify that when I wasn't in range of a connection. And I am the one who called Flint a doomer. So it goes. We do need a discussion about what technical information was supplied by Andy Ray and others. Should be a topic of discussion. I read the other boards, and I saw a lot of opinions, but not a lot of data.
