Kleenex & a question about Malucci

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Oh, that was great. Of course, I'm referring to "Such Sweet Sorrow". From the opening with Mark stroking Rachel's hair, telling her he loved her, to the whole cancer scene (I recently lost a friend in a situation that mirrored this, except she had two young boys), to the trip to Seattle, I was crying the whole time. Thank you, TPTB, for giving the fans what they wanted. I thought it was great.

A question though... it looked like this was a setup for Malucci to perhaps be written off the show as well. What do you think? I have to say that while I enjoy the character, I agreed with Corday's assessment of him. It was nice to see some sort of repercussion, too, and for SOMEONE to remind Abby that she *is* just a medical student!

I forgot to mention Carter's storyline... wow!

Someone in this forum mentioned in another thread that they read on a website that Erik Palladino had signed a four year contract. I sure hope they don't get rid of Dr. Dave!

I think this might be the start of a new change for Dave. Maybe Elizabeth's speech will cause him to change for the better and not be so gung-ho about everything. That was the impression I got, anyway. Maybe he will start to take things more seriously.

I also was wondering whether this was a set up for Dave to go. I have warmed up to him and like the character. But I was so glad to see a scene like this where we get to find out just what other doctors have to say. Elizabeth was great in this scene! I wonder what will happen next? Dave's ego bubble had to have burst!

I wondered the same thing about maybe Malucci leaving! I hope this is just the beginning of a turnaround for him. I really enjoy his character now. And I agree..Elizabeth was great in this scene. We think Romano is bad, but I would not want to cross Elizabeth either!

I don't think this is a set up at all. He looked to be very humbled by Elizabeth...it's just a part of character development. Poor guy, I know he deserved it, but wow, Elizabeth is definetly on the war path again! At least we got the softer side of her last week.

About Elizabeth, I HOPE they don't break her and Mark up. She was great last week, but this week I don't know. I'm mixed about her giving back the necklace. I know, it's more logical to go to Rachel, I said it myself on a thread somewhere, but David also gave it to her on his deathbed. I don't know, I'm glad she said, "don't read too much into this"...and she's coming over at midnight! Yea!

WHAT is with Abby...hello!? PLEASE, let her stop messing up, I WANT to like her.

Funny - I just thought Corday was being a huge bitch. But maybe that's just me. I like Malucci and Abby, and they both seemed to take her tirade to heart. What Corday said was true to a certain extent, but completely unnecessary. One of the more refreshing things about both of those characters is that they are aware of their shortcomings. Malucci jokes about not being the sharpest knife in the drawer - the "class clown" thing is his personality and the way he deals with the fact that he's not perfect. Likewise, Abby always knows when she messes up. (even though it does seem to happen a lot...) Personally, I think tonight's episode set her up perfectly to quit med school and replace Carol. Every episode she appears in, she seems more and more miserable, and she keeps doing the wrong thing no matter how good her intentions are. As for Malucci, I don't see him leaving the show. I barely even see the comment bothering him for more than a day or so. The psychological crisis is all Carter's.

Malucci: Hate him hate him hate him. I felt like Kerry in that episode. Personally, I would have hit him over the head with the crutch. :) It was also refreshing to hear Elizabeth cutting into somebody other than Romano. And you know what? I'll bet if Kerry had had that speech, a dozen Malucci-lovers would be on here complaining about Kerry. That's what I love about her, though. Abby: Mixed feelings. Thanks for taking charge, Abby. Now get Jing- Mei, Kerry, Mark, Luka (not Luka), Carter (bipolar guy?) or somebody to check it out. Do we have Lucy back or what? Carter: MOREMOREMORE!!! Yep, Noah Wyle is loving this new characterization. Fantastic acting. What can I say, except for...OMG on the previews! Next week's episode is going to be GREAT. Luka: Carol, could you kind of explain to him? And Luka is sitting there during Carol's speech thinking, "I'm not good enough for you? What did I do wrong?" and all that jazz. Carol: Has been beaten to death and I'm not going to go on about her. Mark: LOVED the pearls bit.

So Malluchi is Abby's assigned teacher? That's what Kerry said when she was on her rampage in the beginning. Interesting. I've been wondering forever.

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), May 12, 2000.

Elaine, I was wondering about that, myself!! Ah, yet another mystery solved. :-)

Wow. What a great episode. From Mark and his daughter, to Carol's realization and trip to Seattle, to Kerry at her most Weaverish. This one's a keeper!!

I believe Elizabeth's "tirade" was absolutely justified for the patients sake as well as the medical personnel. Dr. Dave needs someone to give him a kick in the butt or he will never improve as a doctor. Some people do not take hints well and need to be flat out told what is going down. This will prove the saving of Dr. Dave.

Malucci is becoming on eo fmy favorite characters. I certainly wouldn't like him in real life but it think it is a lot more interesting to have a doctor who isn't the super wonder-doc like everyone else.

On Malucci as Abby's assigned teacher- Ooooh. Poor Abby. BTW, on previous epi, wasn't Carter's face shown on the screen during the intubation thingy when "good teacher" was said?
