XVCD will not play with software player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I've made a few XVCD discs using RT-6 realtime encoder at 2000kb/s. I used Nero 4.0.8.5 to burn to CD as non-compliant VCD 2.0. The disc will play on my desktop using ATI AIW128 Video CD player and only this player will play this disc. The disc will also play on both my Pioneer DVD standalone units. However, I can not play this disc with anything else beside the ATI AIW128 Video CD player. Window Media Player just hang when i tried to access the *.dat file from the MpegAV directory. Other VCD software players also do the same. The mpeg clip will play fine before burning into VCD format. Has anyone experience this similar situation? If so what did you do to resolve this problem? I tried to install ATI Video CD player into my Compaq laptop and it will not play there either. Any help here would be much appreciated.

Hey Inguyen i know from the previous post we roughly had the same windows media player, but did you check yours to make sure it has the .1112 at the very end? if it doesnt dl this new version, i never had a problem playing vxcds before (and as i said my burner drive will read it, not my dvd rom becasue its not too good), prior to my last reformat, and then thats when my drives would not play thjem until i re dled the windows media plarer. Well thats the only thing i can think off besides possbilyu being the cd rom drives itself.

Hi doug,

I did that and even down load the new 7.0 beta version at microsoft, still this problem exist. My laptop only has a CD-ROM and a USB burner ROM, and neither of them will work on the XVCD. It will play the VCD without hesitation. My Desktop has a DVD ROM and I have no problem playing the XVCD at all with the ATI VCD Player using it. Only Window Media Player will not. This including the HP burner unit on the desktop.

Hi Guys

Thats why you need the Hollywood Plus decoder card, it plays anything (mpeg based) you throw at it and the bottom line for it is a 166mmx, imagine full screen VCD's and DVD's playing on something as old as that, for $80US its the best thing since sliced bread. I have been encoding MPeg2 intermediate files at 14500kb/s and the card plays them without jitters full screen - super!

Hi Ross,

I wish i could install this card into my notebook computer also :) It'll be a dream come true for me to do so. I am trying to use my notebook computer as a portable VCD player for the time i am on the road on business. I can't get it to work with my high bitrate VCD. I have no problem with my desktop playing these discs and i am happy with it. It's the darn laptop that i am complaining about :((

Im glad you fixed the problem, how did you do it?

The answer is here on this forum all along, just have to dig through all of them. Jiao Mpeg player 3.36 will play the XVCD without any problem. This forum is a great place for information.

if you use the JIAO MAKE SURE you de-sleect the video options in windows media player otherwise (at least on my system) the two compete for mpeg playback, well it was fine so i made the pic full screen and once i treid to stop the clip all hell broke loose. So i de-selected the stuff in winodws media player and now its working fine
