It really sounds like a good story Amy but, unfortuantely, Poe was found unconscious on a street in Baltimore near the Fourth Ward Polls on October 3, 1849. Seems there was a local election in progress to elect a Sheriff. He was taken to Washington College Hospital where he was attended by Dr. John J Moran. He died four days later on October 7, 1849. He was said, by Dr. J J Moran, to have been suffering from 'congestion of the brain'. There was no autopsy and his remains were removed for burial to what is now the Westminster Burial Grounds in Baltimore.

Though he was not killed or murdered it is thought that Poe might have fallen into the clutches of one of the election gangs that kidnapped people, drugged them up, and took them from polling place to polling place registering their votes. It is thought that the ordeal, and the exposure, might have contributed to his death.

There is also some speculation that he might have had rabies, but no one is sure, and there is no proof that he was purposely infected.

1996, A research team of doctors in Boston reviewed Poe's symptoms before he died and he seem to have all the symptoms of rabies.

there are many myths about how Poe died. The election gangs seem to be a common one. I thought I heard within the past 2 years that rabies contributed to his death. No one really knows.

Poe's case was picked at random to be reviewed by a board of doctors a few years ago (not before he died as was said above). They seemed to think that he had rabies.

I think Poe was brutally ass rammed to death after shooting up heroine and drinking rabies-infested shnapps. I have the proof to back it up. my great grandfather did the ass ramming. I am a raging homosexual.
