Nikon LS2000 - Is it supposed to be this noisy ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Finally took posession of a new Nikon LS2000. Set it up and got it working with NikonScan 2.5 without any problems.

First comments would be that it seems very noisy when scanning slides, lots of grinding and whiring during the 20 second scan time. Is this supposed to happen, or could it be a problem with the Hardware ?

Also, auto-focus seems slightly tempremental.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Martin

Do not worry!!! Mine is very noisy as well. I've had mine for over a year and it's working wonderfully. Be certain that you are scanning slides and negatives with a completely flat surface. A less than flat surface, particularly with slides, will cause focus problems. Also I have found that extremely dark or under exposed images will cause focus problems. You will develope a feel for this machine and once you do you'll love it. I cannot see how I ever got along without one!!! This is the best way to get a very high resolution image onto your computer for relatively reasonable amount of money. I only wish there were a digital camera for less than $5000 that could begin to produce such high quality images Good Luck!!! Peter
