Upper respiratory infection that won't go away

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

Hello! My two year old Maine Coon cat has a upper respiratory infection that he has had since December. He has runny eyes, a runny nose, occasional sneezing, and ulcers in his mouth. His vet treated him with antibiotics and then with interferon. They didn't seem to make much of a difference. He is not on any medications now because the vet wanted the ulcers on his lip to get a little worse so that she could biopsy. Suprisingly, he doesn't seem to be getting worse off antibiotics, he actually is slowly getting better. He has had all of his shots and has tested negative for FIV, FIP, and Feline Leukemia. Does anybody have any ideas?

Hello, I know how you feel ! My Peter Pan is 7 month old and in the same state since he was 3.the only difference is that he doesn't have ulcers in the mouth. We tryed antibiotics a few times : under those medicine he was guetting better then again worse and when we stoped it was nor worse than better. His temper was fine and he seemed to get as much fun as any kitten, not looking ill at all. My Vet tried some alergies test on him to know if it could be that the probleme We found out that he was alergic to house dust and plants pollens. We are now trying to cure him by Homeopatic medecine for those allergies just like a human as soon as he needs it. It seems to help a bit. I can't tell you if we'll get rid of it some time. I still feel bad when I see him "crying". I don't if this can help, give us some news !
