Sony dsc s70 Vs Nikon Coolpix 990

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi folks,

I have narrowed down to two cameras and can't decide between the two. The macro feature is the one I will be using the most and keep that in mind if you would help me choose between the two based on your experiences, it will be greatly appreciated.

My advice...
Just remove one N from your nick-name and you have made a great choice!
They are really both fine cameras - but looking at the review and sample pix on the S70 sold me on the unit. Take a look at the review on this site! I may be a little odd too - but I don't really care for the twist-n-turn feature of the Nikon - but I'm a traditionalist

...and this from a die-hard Nikon film camera fan!

I've been looking at both also, and the one feature that I can't find on the Sony is the ability to take shots in rapid succession. This seems like a feature that the Nikon has that Sony doesn't. Also, the times for start-up and between shots seems slow on the Sony.

Both are great cameras. Sony has infoLi battery which has long battery life of 2.5 hr without memory effect, making it much more convenient.

I love it. Excellent macro shots, flowers look great. Battery recharge is to never buy batteries again. Or at least until it wears out. Sharp prints at full resolution. Clean zoom shots, even with the digital zoom... only a slight degradation. Color saturation is good with a slight overexposed results. The movie feature with sound is very useful. Quit a nice package for around $700. Allot cheaper than a Nikon 990. All compared shots I've seen on the net gives the winning nod to the Sony. Get One!
