cat going outside

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

HI I think I asked you a couple of questions before> I have a 5 year old main coon he always wants to go outside he is driving me nuts in the house when he is in the house he does not stop meowing he will meow for houres I cant take it any more I live in a condo if I let him out he will get lost or get hit by a car. I dont want to stand outside with him 3 hours every day at the same time I want him to be a happy cat,but i cant listen to the meowing all the time to much stress. Should I find him a home with a back yard that he can go out in all day. Like I said I want him to be happy but he is driving me crazy Please advise thanks Richard grabsky

hi Richard,

We've leash trained our Maine coon and take him out in the garden for half an hour every day or so. Just that little bit of being outside and sniffing flowers and eating some grass makes him REALLY happy. Look around, and I'm sure you can find some info on leash training cats. (This is my third leash trained cat, and I sort of made up my own technique...The main principle is: Never, Ever try to PULL a cat!)
