Categories and Lottery Tickets

greenspun.com : LUSENET : FRL friends : One Thread

I had to call this mini-meeting of the FRL to discuss two important issues. First off, Categories. I hadn't set them up when I first started this forum, because frankly I never thought we'd get to the point where we needed them. I am more than pleasantly suprised to announce,..we need them! So I set up a few Categories, namely:

FRL BUSINESS
SILLY STUFF
SERIOUS STUFF
GARDENING STUFF

These are tentative categories, if everyone approves. Also, I'm sure there are more categories needed..so tell me what to add please! You can choose which category your thread will go into when you start it, or 60 days down the road, I'll pick one and dump it in.

Now on to more FUN news. The lottery tickets for the FRL have been bought. I got $25 worth, as that was what I had in my pocket when I got them. $20 of them are Helen's frl pool. I know Tricia and Jenny wanted in..they're gonna have to share my $5 worth. Essentially, if we win, there is now over $320 million dollars to split up amongst the FRLians,...I don't think we'll need to haggle over it, do you? You can see the FRL's Big Game Tickets at Tickets I wish us all the best of luck!! All I want is a pony! :-)

Kritter,

Wow, if you all won. I can just see the picture on the front page of the USA Today of a bunch of people standing there with fruitcakes. LOL!

Now, refresh my memory.....What category do puns fall out of?

Or does it make a different to a buck out of hunting season for first mates?

Do beavers fall into gardening or pruning categories?

Now, Robert, have you EVER had a beaver fall into your garden OR your prunes. You gotta remember, we're talking CATegories here, not beaveregories.

Never saw any pussies in the bushes ......

Caught a grounded hog in the attic once, and another in the basement....saw a squirrel dive into the bushes the other day.....

So I guess the squirrel in the bush in the middle is worth two hogs on the other hand.....course that may mean the squirrel in the bush caught a shakin' and a wrigglin' like crazy.

CAT (AND DOG) STUFF!

-- Brooks (brooksbie@hotmail.com), May 09, 2000.

Kritter, I forgot to ask my husband for the twenty bucks in cash yesterday. The cash is in registered mail today. I sent you cash instead of a check so you can go right out and buy a congratulatory bottle of wine WHEN we win, without stopping by the bank first.

Now, BEFORE the drawing, NOW at roughly 9:15 CST, Tuesday, May 9, 2000 -- this is my personal vow:

If we win the pot, with my share I will set up a larege college scholarship fund for the descendants of EVERY FRLian we know of at this point, for as long as the money holds out. Any current FRLian who wishes personally to attend higher education in any field will also receive scholarships. Those FRLians who have no descendants and who do not wish to go back to school may designate up to three other people they wish to receive scholarships, and if the money holds out, those designated will automatically have their children entered into the scholarship as well.

This is my vow, made to you all today, before the drawing. Nearly all of you know who I am and where I live, and many of you have maps to my house. I will honor my vow. Amen. ( Please, Lord, SOMEBODY has to win it, why not us?)

My pool consists of Greybear, Lillybear, Coyote, and myself.

"larege college scholarship fund" should read "large college scholarship fund" as in BIG ... and I guess I ought to avail myself of it, majoring in spelling and syntax...

-- helen (home@the.farm), May 09, 2000.

Kritter, WAIT! I just reread what you posted...I have experience with a lotta ticks, not lottery tickets!

When I bought into the pool, I meant to be buying in for us all...you and Jenny and Esta are riding on the whole $25, not $5! All 7 of us, one for all and all for one, that's what I thought I was doing. I just bought in for those inattentive three who were off whispering to make sure they were included.

All I ever wanted to be was Santa Claus. The food bank, the women's shelter, the rural schools around here...all of them will share in my share. I intend to die as broke as I came into the world, although for dignity's sake I hope I'm not as naked...

I think I'll add semantics to my field of study...sheesh...the suspense will kill me before the drawing...

-- helen (home@the.farm), May 09, 2000.

and Tricia, I got Jenny and Esta lumped in together, but hell, the pot is so big I'm throwing Esta in anyway, if you don't mind?

Gotta go scream...

-- helen (onmyway@funny.farm), May 09, 2000.

Helen, yeah, thats what I thought. Actually, I figured with 325 mill there was enough to go around for everyone in the FRL. Infact, with 325 million, theres enough to go around for 325 of us! :-) They say the chances of winning are 7 billion to one, or something like that, and I've lost enough of them to know it's true, but I *did* win $9 on a scratch off ticket once...so there is hope! :-)

-- kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), May 09, 2000.

The odds given on the national news this morning are only 76 million to one...much better than 7 billion to one...

You have an idea there, I was thinking about putting "all" of us in, with the approval of the other 7...I wonder how many "all" of us total as of two days ago?

-- helen (drinking@calming.teas), May 09, 2000.

Helen, you can be sure the number of FRLians would suddenly double should we win..heh. (Remember me? I'm an FRLian..I posted a reply to an FRL thread on Dec.15, 1998. I wrote "Heh.." I heard you're splitting your lottery winnings..here to collect mine) Ah well, all I want is a horse and a goat, and a farm to keep them on. And a pony. Oh, and those SUV's look neat. And a pool..it's been very hot lately. Did I mention the house? Not too big..six or seven bedrooms tops.. and then I'd need a maid I guess..ya know..to help out, and maybe a cook, for those days I dont feel like it. OH, and a gardener, so I can just tell him what I want..and um..a little motorhome for travel. Thats all. Really. (did I say a pony..gotta have a pony)

-- kritter (kritter@adelphia.net), May 09, 2000.

If we do that, we'll be tied up in court for years defining "FRLian". The scholarship idea is already on shakey ground! ACK! I wanna be Santa Claus...other than that, I've already been blessed over and over and don't need a thing.

The real fun is getting to make out a list of all the places the money is needed, and then wondering if ANY amount would be enough to take care of it all...
