Big games full....smaller games about 48-50K IMO.

This article is relevant to the need to fill the stadium. It has probably been discussed before but does anyone know what percentage of our turnover went on wages?

Clubs risking financial ruin

From the Press Association Monday May 8, 2000

The Premier League will not be introducing a salary cap even though many of their clubs are spending more money than experts believe is wise.

Accountants Deloitte and Touche have admitted that any side who splash out more than 50% of their turnover on wages risks financial turmoil if results do not go as planned.

In the new report into the 1998-99 season, only Manchester United, Aston Villa and Leeds meet that target, with some clubs going way beyond that figure.

Both Liverpool and Everton invested 80% of their income on wages, with Sheffield Wednesday and Wimbledon not far behind.

But Blackburn and Southampton are the most startling examples of clubs spending beyond their apparent means.

Rovers' wage bill was more than their turnover in the year they were relegated, while Saints' tiny attendances mean that 87% of their turnover is required just to keep them in the top flight.

It is a strategy which analysts fear could end in disaster, but Premier League spokesman Mike Lee insists clubs have to be accountable for their own finances.

"Clubs are individual businesses and they have to be make their own decisions," he said.

"Fans want success and that is not easy to achieve. Players' wages and the spiralling costs are a matter for concern but solutions are more difficult.

"The modern game requires teams to compete on a European stage and unless a salary cap was introduced across the board, our clubs would be at a huge disadvantage."

Swift, do you mean `are there enough people on the waiting list to fill the seats?` Or, `is everyone who buys a season ticket going to turn up for the matches?` (:o)
