OT-Are we all in The Truman Show?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

I have been thinking about a "unified" theory which would tie together all the conspiracy theories. I know there was a thread on the old board about The Matrix, but I think The Truman Show does a much simpler job.

If all the conspiracy theories were true(chemtrails, NWO, and the like), then we are living in a completely controlled environment. We are all on a show that is being beamed backed to a television audience on some other planet. Of course, there are "illuminati" or "avatars" which make sure the program stays on track, and help to keep the illusion. Coincidences are just part of the script.

The people on the other planet voted to not have TEOTWAWKI-a poll was taken just before the roll-over, and they decided to renew the contract to our show indefinately. The scriptwriters are marvelous, I must say, because we have a wonderfully diverse and strange world, but the ending is probably already known. Pick your apocalypse-Maybe they will have another poll some day.

If you have seen the movie, you know the ending. The main character overcomes his single biggest fear to escape his world. A lovely message, as the biggest stumbling block to our freedom is our thoughts. Change our thoughts, and we can be completely free. No one can imprison my heart, my mind, my soul, and if I want to escape this dastardly show I must evolve spiritually to the point where I can break through the wall of illusion and see true reality-Samadhi.

Future, guess you don't have to go through the "illusion" of going to work at a physical job tomorrow. Work is real, it ain't pretty. Most folks do it, to put bread on the table. Jesus! I thought I was nuts! My body is aching from physical exertion. digging in the yard, shoveling dirt. Yes, there are some who still do this. And even though you might be far removed from such odorous tasks, someone, with lesser than your monetary gains, is shoveling dirt, turning one sprinkler on to try and grow grass on one dirt hill around their block house or Manufactured Home. I say this because I believe in reincarnation (how the hell did I spell that correctly?) No, I don't believe I come back as a bug or bull. I was on some past life, wealthy. Never mind I am almost as poor as a Church mouse in this life. I am not making much progress here for salvation of my soul. Well, for those who discount me, call me "nuts". Well, guess you had to be there. I am still trying to reign in my haughty attitide.

FS,

There have been several Star Trek episodes based on this concept. The one I recall offhand is when Kirk had to fight the Gorn, the creature that looked like a big lizard head. Pretty cool idea.

Guess I'm not cool because I disliked "The Matrix" totally. I thought it would never end. Finally it did end and I went home, turned on the TV news and what did I see?---kids in black trenchcoats with guns underneathe the trenchcoats (just like in the movie), had slaughtered other kids in a HS named Columbine. But of course it wasn't real.

A good film along these lines, which at first glance seems to be just a kid's movie, is Labyrinth from 1986.

My Story:

I think you may have taken my post a little too seriously. I am not sure how you drew the conclusion that I am "far removed from odorous tasks".

The post is mostly a tounge-in-cheek look at conspiracy theories and an absurd conclusion one might draw.\

The bit at the end was my take on the message of the movie-I think it was an excellant message.

Lars:

Was I talking about "The Matrix"? Again I think ya missed the tongue in my cheek.

CinLoo:

Too young for the sixties. Acid was still around in the 80's ; ). I just like to exercise my mind-it is a muscle that is too often not exercised by the masses.

Lars, the point of the movie was that they weren't dead at all but only in their minds, they were trapped in a "physical" world but the world was physical at all, just mental. As FS points out, change your thoughts and you can be completely free. In the end, Neo changed his thoughts and didn't die.

My Story, I also believe in reincarnation. You create your own world and how to live in it. You can change it and evolve to a better world; the choice is yours. Before we come back to this physical plane, we make agreements with our companion entities to correct our past mistakes. Sometimes we correct them; sometimes we repeat them, it's our choice.

Line from the most recent version of "A Star is Born":

Are you a figment of my imagination, or am I one of yours?

FS, good food for thought thread again. I liked both The Truman Show and The Matrix as vehicles for such ponderings.

"My Story", I do some of my best thinking while doing hard physical work. Especially if the hard work does not demand much thinking, like digging in the yard and shoveling dirt. My muscles get exercise and my brain as well. I like to keep fit both ways, and the rewards are great. I feel productive and I've added to my self-awareness. Once in a while I'll make the time to lay in a hammock and admire the results of my physical and mental work. It brings everything back into perspective, and it's then that I have a strong sense of what reality is.

Doing manual labor and meditating is a tradition among monks of many religions. There is something about manual labor which frees the mind. I know for me cleaning serves many good functions(besides a clean house). I find it is a good release for anger in me.

So, get a toothbrush and clean the bathroom floor with it!
