Sorry Jay - I think Ruud Gullit agrees with you!

-- Anonymous, May 07, 2000

You mean I have to agree with Ruudi on something?

-- Anonymous, May 07, 2000

I don't think Ruudi cares who agrees with him. He's his own man with his own opinions and ideas.

When I was young we called people like him, who swam against the tide of common sense "Loonie" but I don't think it's politically correct to say that these days.

Still Jay this is a free-thinking BBS where the expression of opinion, even if it isn't mainstream, is positively encouraged - even when it's obvious to a blind man (sorry - opticallly challenged person of the male gender) on a galloping horse that you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

Happy Birthday for next Saturday! :o))))))

Erm - I think that should be "Happy Birthday for Sunday"!

Spoke to Screacher tonight and he's definitely going to buy you thab birthday drink. &-]]

thab???????

I forgot to say I had a drink with Screacher!

Hey Piglrim - I think it's pretty obvipus you went for a drink (or so!) with me tonite. My advantage is that the Tunnel Top is at the end of wor "unadopted" lane so I could sneak in for a few more after we departed. Have a crackin' time in Rhodesia. I hope the natives aren't restless.

Beers when you return? I'll certainly buy Jay a drink - but I'm not sure about the rest you taaked aboot!

Well - for me, the jury is still oot. PistOne's attitude has been examplary this season - especially after his "contretemps" with th previous man in charge. However, I have seen too many under par performances this season to be totally convinced - Wimbledon away certainly comes to mind. But these were with no outlet ahead of him, and his best performances have been with (say) Domi ahead of him.

This raises a (more important?) question aboot the wide left man. We need one - and blidddy quick.

Another one reserving judgement over here. I wasn't terribly impressed by him before the leg-break. Actually he was frustrating me to no end around Christmas when he just wouldn't tackly, wouldn't get forward...just kinda hung around waiting for things to come to him. Screacher made a good point about him needing someone good in front of him. And I have to give him a lot of credit for fighting back from his broken leg. It's certainly making me willing to give the guy a chance until we have someone who is clearly superior in the role(Perhaps Domi?). If he's still shying away from tackles etc next season, then yes, I'll be yelling for him to be sold off while we can still get more than pocket lint for him.

Hey Screacher leave that word alone; "Rhodesia" - don't let Robert Mugabe catch you using that word, he'll have them occupying your hedgerow!

Oh yeh, Pistone is pants, soiled pants!!!

playing to the gallery Jay?

I would have agreed utterly until he came back under Bobby, different player, different attitude almost.

I don't like row Z defenders and so far the rehab'd PistOne is far from that but going forward he needs to improve, which is Domi's big plus. I also think Griffin is a top player aswell.....but that's another storey.

Hey Jay, seems like you have agreement from the press. Eric Fleary in yesterday's Observer writes:

With his defence a shambles, the Newcastle manager Bobby Robson threw on Didier Domi for Alessandro Pistone after just 13 minutes, although the Italian did clutch his hamstring for effect as he reached the touchline.

I'm not convinced by him either, but then that doesn't really surprise anyone, does it? He got kicked in the head by a Wimbledon thug in his first season and never really recovered.

He has shown a better attitude under YBR (who hasn't? Not you Maric, you keep sitting down) and amazed me when he came back in that he now plays everything with his left foot instead of cutting inside on his right as he insisted on doing before. I can only imagine that the mackem(ptuh!) broke his right leg earlier in the season.

He has miles to go yet in order to change my mind, although that goal went some way towards helping the pair of us. I will never simply forget that abject display in the Cup Final against Arsenal or his "injuries" in the reserves or that it was his peers who turned on him before Gullit ever darkened our door.

I doubt we'd ever find a buyer for him, and hopefully that fact fill stir him into saving his own career, which appears to have been the Robson way (unless you are called Silvio or Temuri).

Oops - italics off.

I think Pistone is probably the best LB we've got, but he's not great. He's a better defender than Domi, but not as good going forward.
In making these observations, I'm assuming Andy Griffin is a RB. I know he played extensively as a LB before he came here, but he's never looked comfortable on that side for the Toon. On the other hand, if he can stay fit, I think he's an excellent RB - possibly better than Barton, imo.

Italics off this time, hopefully!

-- Anonymous, May 08, 2000

I agree - he's totally useless. But then I thought Maric was a good buy so what do I know. Barton

-- Anonymous, May 08, 2000

There are few things at NUFC more perplexing than Maric. We all saw him play superbly against us at least once. He can't claim to have been played out of position, because he's had a go at everything bar goalie and been pants in all of them. Simply don't get it. Wish he's 'do a Barton', but he doesn't seem to be made of the right stuff. We wuz robbed.
