FS,

What about MT.Dew or does that count as pepsi?

Pepsi

-- Debra (...@....), May 07, 2000.

Dr. Pepper if they got it, Mt. Dew second choice, otherwise Coke, but never any of that "diet" stuff... <:)=

Mt Dew = old Hillbilly Joose? Remember, it used to have hillbillies on the cans? Back to the 60's....

For me, DIET PEPSI, only buy diet coke when I have too. Diet coke gives me these bumps on my taste budz and they hurt. Too much acid?

Wonder what it does to the ol tummy?

FS: why did you ask this? Gotta know....LOL

Perhaps it is wrong of me to admit it, living as I do in Atlanta, but I'm a confirmed Pepsi drinker.

A couple of anecdotes for you:

I believe Pepsi was the first Western cola behind the Iron Curtain. Wonder if they called it "Pepski?" :)

You'll have a hard time confirming this one, but try if you like. I was told this by a friend in Coke's legal department. As you might imagine, Coke has a hard lock on most fountain drink outlets in the Atlanta area (sports arenas, college cafeterias, etc) that aren't already owned by Pepsico (like Taco Bell, KFC, etc), or which don't serve both (like certain gas station convenience stores).

HOWEVER -- and this is a huge source of embarrassment to Coca-Cola Corporate -- when it comes to bottled and canned unit sales, Pepsi sells better in Atlanta and has done so for many years. The happy upshot of that is that Coke and Pepsi fight price wars all summer long here, and $4 cases of either cola are easy to find. The diligent Atlantan can sometimes even find $3 cases of their preferred cola beverage.

But really, folks-

Nothing beats a home, sun-brewed iced tea on a hot summer day, with fresh lemon juice squeezed in and just a tinge if sugar.

This concoction got me through the first summer without the alcohol.

To those who expressed health concerns about the coca cola-believe me, this is much better for me than alcohol at a party-give me the alcohol and I would be talkin to you'all from prison.

Pepsi/diet..

-- Peg (not@really.necessary), May 07, 2000.

al-d, you are right about the addiction to diet coke. I drank it for 15? 20? years. I "craved" the taste. I would get all nervous and jumpy until I could pop a top. Sipped two a day. Then I read all the bad stuff about Aspertane, and I haven't been feeling so physically great for a long time, so I went cold turkey from diet coke to regular coke. No, I haven't been able to walk on water, or leap bounds. But what is interesting is I don't "crave" a regular coke. I drink one a day. And contrary to public opinion, ya don't gain weight, at least I haven't. Just my experience.

-- My Story and I'm (sticking@toit.com), May 07, 2000.

Coffee in the morning, Coke the rest of the day. No artificial sweetened stuff either, a man's gotta stay healthy and that stuff will kill ya...

Factfinder:

I am with you on the coffee. Coffee is actually a huge passion of mine. It must be fresh roasted within the last few days, and it must be a single origin coffee. I like to make my own blends, so I do not buy store blends. I buy whole bean and crush as needed for the freshest brewed coffee.

I have a particular fondness for Kona and Kenyan, but I can really get into a good Antigua or a fresh Costa Rican from the La Minita region.

Coffee is quite incredible-so many different characteristics from so many parts if the world, I really would not do without it!

Consumer:

Not so much a hell-raiser as a sneaky M*****F*****; I did what I had to do to get mine, even if it meant taking yours. So glad I do not live that way anymore.

Black Jack with a water back....um well that was years ago when I was stationed in Texas.

No pop Iced Tea unsweatened with lemon or water, always have a big glass of water by the computer. Beer is good, I can drink just one, but haven't had one in over a year, life was too stressful to indulge. I love trying different beers, every neighborhood in Seattle has self brew shops, you can make your own. Someone combined Seattle's obswssion with coffee and beer together and made coffee beer-yuck! Coffee fresgly ground before brewing-doesn't everyone have a coffee grinder? Especially now that Folders comes whole bean. I used to drink double fat Latte's all day but am weaned now, I can sit still for more than a minute at a time.

I prefer very darkly roasted; French roast or espresso, which believe it or not, removes much of the caffeine. I hate those coffee jitters but won't give up my coffee. This is a happy medium.

Futureshock, have you tried starbucks' Ethiopian blend? Waaaaaaaay too much caffeine, we are talking one cup and you're flying. I can't deal but I have some friends who adore it. Of course they are spazzy. =)

CD:

I agree with you that the beverages tasted better in real glass-the coca cola of the sixties was definately superior to the coca cola of today.

CinLoo:

I am very opinionated about Starbucks. I think their product is crap. They dark roast nearly all their beans, effectively killing all the flavor. Every bean has its ideal roast-A gifted roaster is my best friend as she or he knows the right roast for the right bean. Coffee beans are not a one size fits all when it comes to roast style. In addition, I have NEVER had a cup of freshly roasted Starbucks coffee; I did not know this until I discovered a cafe in Sag Harbor, Long Island that roasted the beans on premise-once I drank that coffee I knew I was being sol imposter coffee at most places.

I guess I am a snob!

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), May 08, 2000.

Sysman:

Just had to tell you that you were in a dream I had last night(This is the final straw; I officially have an addiction problem with this board when I start dreaming about it!).

I was at some kind of picnic, and I spotted your tee-shirt, which of course had "Sysman" printed on the front of it.

I went over and said hello, confirmed it was you, and asked if you knew my handle. Alas, you had no idea who "FutureShock" was. I guess I have not made an impression on you! LOL.

Who knows. Maybe we will meet. As far as I remember you live in New Jersey. I also live in New Jersey. So next time you go to the park, rmemeber to wear that tee-shirt I asked you to make-the one that says "Sysman"!.

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), May 08, 2000.

Did you all know that the only REAL difference between Coke© and Pepsi© is Coke has an orange citris base, and Pepsi a Lemon base? Some say one has more sugar than the other but I don't believe it.

Anyway, in taste tests, they have determined that people who prefer orange flavoring over lemon are the Coke© drinkers, and lemon preference are the Pepsi© drinkers! Wild, huh!?!

Ya know what they say "absinthe make the heart grow fonder" : )

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), May 08, 2000.

When I was a kid, I was a Coke drinker. Then they changed the formula in the mid-80's. Then they supposedly changed it back to the "classic" flavor.

They lied.

Most people didn't see a difference between "old" Coke and "classic" Coke and I never understood why. The "classic" stuff tasted like medicine and still does to me. One difference I noticed in the ingredients was that they were now using corn syrup instead of sugar. Whatever they did, I switched to Pepsi and never looked back.

I think changing a timeless and hugely popular cola formula was one of the more boneheaded moves I've seen a company do.

-- (hmm@hmm.hmm), May 09, 2000.

Hmm:

I agree. The original Coke taste did disappear. It has not tasted the same since the changeover. Coca Cola in the 70's was superior to the coca cola of today.

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), May 09, 2000.

The best Coca-Cola was around 100 years ago when it had real cocaine in it. Much better high than coffee. :-)

Guinness!!!p>Thats the Beer I was trying to remember, I would chat with a friend in Australia a couple of years ago and drink a few bottles with him. It has a very rich, I loved the taste.

I learned to drink as a child, sips of beer, later wine at special dinners, when in Germany. My Father taught me how to control my drinking after I drank a cup of Old Grandad and ate a bowl of icecream while watching TV one Friday night. We would play scrabble and he would teach me how much to drink and when to stop and how to distinguish when I needed to slow down. That helped me in the AirForse, so many others were drinking for the first time and getting sick all the time, I would "drink them under the table". It seems that it takes longer for the alchol to leave the system as I have gotten older and I usually don't drink very often, do not have the desire, but Maybe I will have a Mom's night out with the ladies at the "Club" and have a little fun soon.Gotta remember to bring a lot of one dollar bills to stick in the right places.

Pepper Stolichnaya

yummmm gimme summm =oP

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), May 09, 2000.

FS, I wasn't making that up, it is true that Coca-Cola originally had extract from the Coca plant as an ingredient, and was very effective at "pepping" people up. I believe it wasn't until the early 1900's when they stopped putting that in and used caffeine instead.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), May 09, 2000.

The cocaine was removed in the 1920's I believe.

It would be nice to find something besides caffine to pep me up these days.

Excuse the outburst...carry on carry on.

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), May 10, 2000.

cin, I assume you're talking about cocaine? Your bad experience is probably attributable to the fact that the only blow available for the last 15 or 20 years has been stepped on with so much crap that you'll be lucky to get 5% of the real thing. It's all the other crap that messes you up.

The tootskie I was fortunate enough to indulge in for one very happy summer about 20 years ago was closer to 90% pure, and let me tell you, it is one of God's best creations. No side effects, just pure euphoria, power of concentration and intellect unknown to people of today. There ain't nothin like the real thing.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), May 10, 2000.

What is acutally frightening is that "Wow I think I wanna do this everyday" feeling. Not many people can control it. I would say that many are hooked after one try.

I remember the chunky, yeller, gummy stuff that EVERYONE except me loved, the only good thing about that I really loved was the fact that they were all higher than 90 and the gals looked to me because they knew I wouldn't do ANYTHING that MAN could tamper with(most of the time).Their fellers were too busy doin whatever and I was the magic man: )

Hawk,

With that too I learned early on that the ladies were the ones that loved them, this ain't politically correct to say now but back then it was funny in that you could allways tell who was luddin' by the dings, scrapes and dents in their ride.

Cin,

Why would you hang your head in shame? It is just something that we did,thankfuly/hopefully we escaped without killing ourselves or somebody else.No need for shame because it is a source of wisdom and maybe a little laughter.

Boogie Nights? sounds like a disco movie, sorry folks but me and the TV aren't the best of buds.

Just a thought, but maybe we should have a version of Happy Hour on the board. It could just be primarily for us to be social,no debates,no flames, truce time.Like the thread on the old board of the soldiers in WW1 who got together on Christmas day, played soccer, fraternized, drank and became a face and a real human being to.

I digress, but was Y2K bigger than WW1? they got past their differences, seems we could too.Maybe it would be a decent thread? WAS Y2K BIGGER THAN WW1? WW2? VIETNAM? Lets get on with life.

But I wouldn't do it over again for nothin.

Used to have a saying "i'll eat whatever dont eat me first"...lol.

LUDES , OMG, heres a funny lude story (BTW, great way to bring you down off the cola specially the yellow stuff)

Was Flying high on the yellow, tooo racy, sis came by and dropped of 2 ludes, having never indulged and the fiend I was, silly me ate both.

At that time, I was in process of cleaning out the freezer, which was not frost free. Using the old method, boiling water, sitting inside the freezer, melting ice., chipping ice etc....Was finished when the lude began to KICK IN, and I mean KICK IN.....

Filled metal ice trays, placed them ever so gently in freezer, having wet fingers, I became STUCK, and could not get Unstuck...

Too high to figure out what to do, yelled for sister who came to my aid and poured water on freezer to release my burned fingers.

Couldnt type for a week........

LOVED DEM LUDES.....No shame here....back then the good chit was around.

anymore good stories out here? not that mine was good, how bout it capn shroom head? lol....... Da Ladies Man, I knew it, you seem the type, sneaky......(*smile, wink*) but didnt all da men treat us ladies right on w/the cola??????ya know ya did....LMAO.

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), May 11, 2000.

I worked as a temp once at Coca-Cola Enterprises.

I heard this story there, don't know if it's true, but they said it was.

See, what happened was that "New Coke" was a pet project of the company president. So much so that when it came out they changed the trademark for the term "Coca-cola" so that it referred to "New Coke". When the "New Coke" flopped in the market and they decided to go back to the old coke, they couldn't change the trademark. So, that's why the new old coke is called Coca-cola Classic. They're not allowed to call it plain Coca-cola because they had changed the trademark. Not sure if patents were involved as well. The story also goes that the company president still has a huge stash of New Coke because he likes it so much, but nobody else will drink it.
